Here's a timeline of events to summarize what happened.
- 07/09/03 - E-mailed FDCservers to confirm that they can set up a server in time for a deadline. Their response: "We can have that setup within 24 hours."
- 07/10/03 - Placed server order with FDCservers.
- 07/13/03 - Server still not up, they reply to an e-mail: "I emailed our techs to set it up ASAP, your server will be ready within next 12 hours"
- 07/14/03 - Server still not up, they reply to an e-mail: "I am really sorry your order was processed this weekend and our techs are setting it up right now. It should be ready within 40-60 minutes". This was after I called; they could not seem to find my order. I am doubting that they even have a customer database.
After the server is up, the packet loss is over 60% & its almost impossible to SSH to the server. At this point, I was very upset so I e-mailed them back and said that we did not want the server. I believe that it was within our right to request a refund.
No refund. Even now, they refuse to issue a refund - regardless of the fact that they missed the deadline by 4 days and the server could not even sustain a connection when it was up.
The customer we ordered this server for is a high bandwidth user and has an extremely popular website that needed to be moved to a new server with cheap bandwidth with a close deadline. Due to FDCservers' incompetence, the move never happened, we lost a client and the fact that the site went down upset a lot of people. Slashdot even posted a news item about it.
If you're looking for an unreliable provider that will not realize its own faults, FDCservers is the one. The service is terrible.
