Goldfiles 08-22-2003, 12:09 PM I think macromedia flash will let you save your work as a .gif And yes it will be animated. :) |
illusionist 08-22-2003, 12:11 PM | wow that was !fast! i just pressed submit and back to lounge and zap already answered...thanks buddy! |
Goldfiles 08-22-2003, 01:14 PM No problem. :) Not only can you save as .gif but you can also save your work as a .html |

madmouser 08-22-2003, 06:31 PM Flash will let you save a .fla file as an animated .gif instead of a .swf. |
illusionist 08-22-2003, 07:06 PM K how do i save fla as animated gif? when i save sav as i only have option to save as .fla, when i export them as image they are not animated when i export them as movie i get around 27 gif files when i save it??? |
madmouser 08-22-2003, 09:55 PM File>Publish Settings
check "gif" and uncheck everything else.
You'll now have a tab that says "gif" next to the "formats" tab.
Click on that.
Click "animated" and the other parameters you want, like number of times to repeat, size, transparency, etc.
Click on Save or "publish."
If you click on "publish" it will save it as a xxxxxx.gif
If you click on Save, you then need to go to File>Publish Movie and save it where you want it. It will save it as a .gif.
Put it in the html page the same way you would any .gif.
You will only see the animation when you preview the page in a browser. |
Virago 08-22-2003, 10:46 PM As for file sizes, swf will generally be much smaller than an animated gif. I admin a board where an advertiser submitted a 245K ani-gif. After a few complaints, the advertiser re-worked it as a swf and the identical ad was then 65K, resulting in a savings of nearly 75% on their bandwidth charges for serving the ad, as well as faster download times for those on dialups. :) |
fission 08-23-2003, 12:13 AM also when you export as a gif, the quality goes... |
illusionist 08-23-2003, 05:01 AM Thanx fellas...got it working....but "man" the quality sucks!!! Is there a way to get good quality gifs? |

It depends on what it is what settings you need to use.
I'd suggest posting it and let everyone take a look and see if it would be better to keep it as a swf. |
cactus 08-24-2003, 07:23 AM If you first saved as .fla(you can edit/modify the file) then publish your file and then saved as a swf(Export movie), the swf will act as the Flash player.
Flash will also create an HTML page with the same name as the .swf file. Just copy the code and paste it to your actually page that you want the movie to play, of course the .swf file should be in the same folder also.

DoG||RealFun 07-22-2004, 03:03 PM Hi I made something with flash but he saves it as fla and i need it in animated .gif how can i do that ??? |
Christina 07-22-2004, 03:09 PM .gif = poor quality loss
.swf = high quality retained
I suggest just using the .swf animation
If you need to use a .gif though, then you should've made it in ImageReady. If your animation has a lot of effects, .gif won't be able to handle it too well, even if you bump up the quality of compression. |
P3RPL3XITY 07-22-2004, 03:38 PM Since I cater to a lot of Flash related jobs, it's fairly easy to get this going. FLA is merely a source file to your final product(swf), having the source you can modify and export your timeline animation to whatever you plan to publish it as - be it swf/gif/avi/qt/etc. Having the animation exported as swf will compress the filesize greatly and would give a smoother animation compared to a Gif. If you were to export the timeline animation as a Gif, you will need to goto
File>Export>select Animated Gif>manupilate the properties(I suggest export it as 64 colors)
And you're done. Larger the timeline(Frames) would result in a larger filesize. Also, take that that movieclips in your timeline would not be animated when exported as a Gif.
Hope that helps! |
Xfile 02-16-2005, 09:19 AM 4 converting Flash to Gif (or even any video format) I prefer to use Flash to Video Encoder.

|Jordan| 03-04-2005, 04:07 PM Generally, quality is lost when you convert to GIF because of the 256 color limit. It's best to convert to 32 bit PNG and then convert to GIF in an imaging program such as MacroMedia Fireworks (it has optimizing filters). |
