create a zone file on your nameserver with an 'A' record pointing at the IP you have put the physical hosting account on

in your MX record add these lines.

ns 14400 IN A 0.0.0.0
ns2 14400 IN A 0.0.0.0

Use your own IP there.

And replace domain name entires with your domain name.

What is the 14400 for?

I'm new with plesk and RedHat, where do I go to change zone file?

shorty
08-09-2001, 01:31 PM
with plesk you can only do it in the panel - but your entries look ok - you have www in 209.217.52.118 so as long as you have set up a physical hosting account pointing at 209. 217. 52. 118 you should be okay - if you've just set up the zone you will need to wait for it to propagate - this is what nslookup shows for the IP

Name: aux-209-217-52-118.mycatalog.com
Address: 209.217.52.118

check you don't have extra spaces in your IP number entry - could just be the pasting in the form

Yes it is a physical hosting account.

I have made the ns changes at netsol 2 days ago, should be 3rd day today in couple of hours more. How long do I have to wait?

There is no space it's just the copy thing.

your name servers are resolving ok but your domain isn't so you do have a problem with the dns you have set for it - try entering it all again and miss out the cname for www - if you have an 'A' record for the domain to IP and the www to the IP you should be okay

The nslookup is showing the old ns. How do I change it?

[admin@www admin]$ nslookup 209.217.52.118
Server: ns1.certifyexpress.com
Address: 209.217.55.218

Name: aux-209-217-52-118.mycatalog.com
Address: 209.217.52.118

shorty

what you're seeing is the hostname of your server - when it shows:

Server: ns1.certifyexpress.com
Address: 209.217.55.218

but the result is :

Name: aux-209-217-52-118.mycatalog.com
Address: 209.217.52.118

this is showing that the reverse for the IP points to aux-209-217-52-118.mycatalog.com they probably look after your reverse for you so check how to update that or whether you need a PTR

what you need to do to see if your name servers are resolving is

nslookup dns1.certifyexpress. com

or nslookup 209.217.52.116

also check what you have in your /etc/resolv.conf

because you don't want to be confusing your machine name with the name servers

[root@cheng /root]# nslookup 209.217.52.116
Note: nslookup is deprecated and may be removed from future releases.
Consider using the `dig' or `host' programs instead. Run nslookup with
the `-sil[ent]' option to prevent this message from appearing.
Server: 209.217.16.2
Address: 209.217.16.2#53

116.52.217.209.in-addr.arpa name = aux-209-217-52-116.mycatalog.com.

This is what I have in /etc/resolv.conf

search com
nameserver 209.217.16.2
nameserver 209.217.1.2

What should I do next?

shorty

it would suggest those IP's are providing DNS for you - check your config with your provider on how they set up your DNS

nslookup for your domain is okay:

nslookup dns1.certifyexpress.com

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: dns1.certifyexpress.com
Address: 209.217.52.116

but reverse isn't set

nslookup 209.217.52.116

Name: aux-209-217-52-116.mycatalog.com
Address: 209.217.52.116

but there again not sure how your provider has your DNS set up etc
