Here's a quick thought more aimed at the web designers out there...

What would you consider to be the "optimum portfolio"?

I figure something that shows:
- your strengths
- variety of work/skills
- good selection of "respectable" clients

Any other comments of factors to consider?

Also, how many sites would you include in a portfolio and would you even consider showing "in development" sites?

Thanks for the input :)

I think, obviously your best work, but also the work you enjoy the best. If you can get enquiries based on the stuff you enjoy doing you'll be set :)

I've thought about using 'in development' sites but decided against it. Unless there's a *long* list of sites I've always presumed adding in development work as something people do to boost up a small amount of available work

Respectable clients are always great. Lawyers, doctors etc... I'd list them before I'd think of putting up game cheats or porn sites *lol*

Generally I like to see portfolio sites that let the work speak for themselves rather than the designer sounding like a prat.

My own one is so woefully out of date now it's becoming embarrassing :)

While it's tempting to throw every trick in the book into a portfolio site to *wow* someone, it's usually a good idea to just pick the most impressive BUT STYLISH things you do, and build the best site you can.
