Today is a sad day in the webhosting industry. When people like this this (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=176612) expect to get so much for next to nothing.

Now I have crawled this board for quite some time now, so I understand that it is filled with minions requesting free hosting and gnomes who request 5000gigs of transfer for $3. This is what I have come to expect, and whatever, let the kids have there dreams.

What really bothers me is when I see respectable web hosts compeating with some kid who used his moms CC to buy a ded server. What I suggest is people who are trying to run a reputable buisness, ignore the posts asking for $3.95/month hosting. There is no possible way you can pay a support staff what they are worth if you are barely paying for your own bandwidth.

Let the no support/unreliable hosts oversell there servers and lose clients so that you can get back to buisness. You see, it gets scary for the rest of the hosting industry when the USA based buisness have to under sell themselves so far. Take a look at the majority of established buisnesses and telcos; they still charge a base $30 and up for a small hosting package. My local hosting company charges $31.95cdn for 10mb/1gig transfer with no db access or control panel and limited scripting.

My Point... being one of the most travelled hosting fourms in the industry, if not the most, it is being saturated with cheap hosts as well as first time customers expecting to get a quality service for less than the cost of the bandwidth itself. From this we get unsatisfeid customers who come to us with horror stories we here time and time again. It is no good for any of us when customer confidence drops, and that is exactly what seems to be happening. I am worried that we will soon see alot of companys lose there shirts. You need to start thinking about service as well as your cost/profit ratio.

The one thing I am glad to see is still here is the community spirit as well as the willingness to help one another out!

I agree completely.. but business is business.. and people always knock the price down to compete and make up for other things.. I'm not going to knock on rackshack (TOO HARD) but look at them.. they do the same thing.. ~$100 / month for 700 gb? No reason for that.. none at all.

IF rackshack disappeared and the cheap dedicated places raised pricing, you would see a good 50% of hosting companies DROP like rocks.

Repeat after me:

Webhosting talk does not represent the entire webhosting community.

Webhosting talk does not represent the entire webhosting community.

Okay, So I saw that posted by someone else on here and I may have lifted it for the purpose of this post...but it's true! :D

Yup.

There's a reason I didn't reply to that post - it was after he modified it to show his requested price. I smiled and moved on.

There's more to hosting than taking a RS server, dividing it up, and making sure you have enough money to buy a mountain dew a month.

Also, he wanted access to modify php.ini (ie, root access). So he'd have to have at least a vds, likely.

That's without touching his attitude near the end...

What I find funny is that he wants to be able to over-sell, but then he specifies that he doesn't want to be on an over-sold server ;)

Re-Reading it - I don't even think it was a real request.. too far out there.

IMHO it is a host looking to see his competition and set his pricing structure.

If it is a 'real' request, I hope he gets what WE ALL know will happen!

I guess some people just need to learn the hard way :P

Man thats a joke.....

I love th math used in that post, a whopping $70 per month profit. I couldn't even take my girlfriend out with that, much less pay my own bills.

Hello all, My name is Manuel Morgan and I am a current employee of HostBlock, and I am 15 years of age. I also run my own hosting/webdesigning business (host-er.com). I came across this thread about age and I think that you who think age is of importance are just ignorant(meant in the nicest way possible). I look at RWD and I see far more experience, knowledge, and dedication to the business then you have or will ever have. I am with RWD when we say Technology is for the young so get used to it. I mean this whole thread shows that we do not need 20 years to be as good or even BETTER then you are.

I'm sure you don't need a car, seeing that your probably a 45 year old chubby computer geek who lives in front of his computer screen?
