View Full Version : Nonresponsive Host (seeking help)
x20Deepx 08-17-2003, 01:56 PM I'm sorry to be butting in on you guys like this, but someone recommended that I post here for help. On August 1st, I bought my domain, twice-avenged.net, from ehostplus.com. The service was terrible; the server had far too many downtimes. So, I found a more reliable host and decided to cancel my plan at EHostPlus, which advertised a 30 day guarantee. However, after emailing them and waiting for three days, I received no reply. So I subsequently emailed them again, three more times. It has been over a week since my first email, and they have not shown any sign of life. Does anyone here have any suggestions as to what to do in this situation?
Thank you for your time.
CrazyTech 08-17-2003, 01:59 PM Any other contact methods. Perhaps you can do a whois and try to contact them by methods listed there?
blue27 08-17-2003, 02:03 PM Unlimited disk space and unlimited transfer for $5 per month. Sorry bud, you are never going to get hold of these guys.
You could always try Paypal and try to have their account frozen.

That would be a viable option I think. I certainly appears you've gone out fo your way to contact this guy directly, with no results. I think it could be a good time to start going up the food chain and speak to the billing provider more directly.
thedavid 08-17-2003, 09:09 PM Ugh.. Unlimited/unlimited for $5 smells like trouble. Your only way to fix this is to either try contacting them at this address:
eHost Plus (webmaster@ehostplus.com)
2533220971
FAX: 2533220971
P.O. Box 171904
Miami, Fl 33017
US
If that doesn't work, try the paypal dispute. I've heard bad things about paypal in regards to disputing 'virtual' items such as hosting, but you're likely to at least get someone that you can talk to about this.

ezbnc 08-17-2003, 09:10 PM Sorry to hear but as stated above unlimted means your going to get unlimted something usually a big fat pain in the neck. Good luck try paypal your best option and most expensive to a bad host.

a1nerd 08-18-2003, 04:13 AM 5 bucks wow and you got a free domain name. Where can i sign up.
eddy2099 08-18-2003, 04:25 AM Just went to the site, impressive hardware and datacenter and all that but why can't they afford a merchant account and just rely on Paypal ? does seems fishy..
I seems to seen their handle here in WHT before.. I could be wrong though. See what their response is.
Don't forget to file a report. http://www.BBB.org
a1nerd 08-18-2003, 07:02 AM before you destroy this guys reputation make sure hes not in the hospital or has a good excuse. It really bothers me when people are quick to jump to conclusions. I mean you got a domain name for 5 bucks thats worth everything right there. The guy probably starved to death because his prices where so cheap. Just take the loss and move on i mean you got a 5 dollar domain name!!! He was even nice enough to threw in hosting with it. What do you expect for 5 bucks i mean come on.
I -THINK- the concern may be that he is not able to update the DNS information for this domain name since it was registered by the host.... though I of course cannot be sure w/o more feedback from the original poster.
I respectfully disagree with allowing "small amounts" to be less accountable than larger amounts. A lot of scams have been successful in making the scammer rich via just asking for a buck here and there...not to mention the way a 'low cost scam' can ruin the reputation of the companies that are working hard to provide the advertised services in a more profitable manner for both the consumer and the business. Let us also not forget that someone who was frugal enough to seek out the lower amount may see that amount as much higher since they tend to work harder for what little amount of cash they have available for such things.
If a report is made to the BBB, the BBB will attempt to contact the business and offer the business a chance to respond accordingly. If the business responds in a satisfactory way then things are fine... if not then you have a company that was unable to comply with the most basic of business requirements.
Sick or not, the business entity must be able to satisfy its obligations and if it is not able to then someone must be available to explain this fact to the clients. Where these fundamental requirements are not able to be met, the business owner needs to be educated. How else do we maintain a positive business directive overall and avoid being inundated by fly-by-nights?
As far as false reports or consumers too quick to enter the firing range... I agree that can be a problem too...a big one. However this poster seems unable to contact the business and for that reason may need to take an alternate route in completing the task. If the poster has not made every effort to contact the host, prior to filing reports, then obviously that's a problem with the consumer. If however the only method the host has provided is a non responsive email address or phone number then their options are obviously limited.

He hurt his own reputation by offering unlimited hosting.
Regarding just moving on from this host, it makes it difficult when a host also registers a domain for you. When you have no control over a domain, then you are at their mercy.
Additionally, hosts that offer domains for free generally will require that you stay with them for "x" amount of time before they will transfer control of the domain over to you. Most likely even if he does get a refund, he will not be keeping the domain or will pay an inflated price to have it transferred over to him.
x20Deepx 08-18-2003, 11:09 AM I paid for a year actually, so that's $60. Although I'm more concerned with keeping my domain then getting the money back.
Thanks a lot. I'll try filing a report.

I agree with everything - except the broad brushstrokes you used for hosts who offer domain registration. Honest, reputable hosts will register the domain name in the customers name only, allowing them to do what they wish with them.

Cut bait. Quit wasting your time and effort, which are worth more than what you'll get out of this.
If you're Amanda Zhang and/or have the email address RoLLiNgTwEnTyDeEp@hotmail.com, then contact eNom and ask them how to access the ability to make changes to your domain... if that's not you, then you're S.O.L., as that's who the registered owner is.
