Hello all of you current companies with Dedicated Servers.

We are looking at Rackshack servers and are trying to decide between the following:

Celeron 1.3 with 512MB Ram and 60GB HDD $99
Celeron 1.3 with 1GB Ram and 60GB HDD $109
Celeron 1.3 with 1GB Ram and 2x60GB HDD $129
Celeron 1.7 with 512MB Ram and 60GB HDD $109
Celeron 1.7 with 1GB Ram and 60GB HDD $119
P4 2.0 with 512MB Ram and 80GB HDD $129

Or finally Server4You's
AMD Duron 1300 with 512MB RAM 60GB HDD $64 ($150 Setup)
AMD Athlon XP 2400 with 1GB RAM 120GB HDD $114 ($150 Setup)

All of these (except Server4You) are a little more than we wanted to pay but 129USD was about the absolute highest we were willing to pay. We really didnt want to pay Setup Fees. Server4You sounds good but you only get 1 IP and addl IP's are $5 each per month which I think is nuts.

We will be putting between 200 and 300 clients on this server and some of them willl be using mySQL.

Could people give me their opinions.

Hmm.. I would go with rackshack over server4you. IMHO a company that photoshops in their logo to a datacenter room isn't exactly one that I'll go with.

That's only if you prepay for one full year. Plus, that's excluding their lovely $150 setup fee ;)

I would second the servermatrix. It is great to have a tech support line that is answered in 2 rings. Then they will actually walk down to your server, hook up a monitor and take a look at it for you. They did that for me this week.

Its really up to you, your decision to make:

RS have a very solid reputation here while S4Y is new in the market but they're also part of another germany based company.

Both have pretty good pricing, I'm not too sure about the speed of the servers, but as many say, nothing beats Rackshack's Support (taking that the servers are unmanaged) :D

I would vote RackShack out of the two you offered, but I would also recommend looking at Server Matrix. The network at both is great. Rack Shack is purely unmanaged where as Server Matrix is somewhat managed (although you can get full management from SM for a fee, they have several levels).

I'm still waiting for RS to get rid of the sales tax. I don't want to pay nearly $150 for a server advertised as $129. Other than than, all hail the mighty Headsurfer !!! :usflag:

Does anyone know if ServerMatrix charges tax? I am in Canada if that makes any difference

We ordered a server from ServerMatrix last week and there was no tax. Their order form states taxes are for Texas residents only and we are not in Texas.

The $129 mentioned above for RS, w/tax equals $136.51 (subtracted $1 setup).

Well Rackshack is out of the loop. I HATE tax. lol

I am very likely going to order one of theirs tonight.

Yep, I would go with servermatrix!:D I'm going with them when i buy a few machines off them, when i open my site:)

My experince with RS has been great.. Very few bumps in the road.. And the tax is maybe 8 bucks... Not a big deal really.. We have the P4 2.4Ghz with 1gb ram.. I think it comes out to be 158.71 every month..

BTW: Search this forum for the keywords rackshack and taxes.. And look at all the threads from recent days :D

Well they are both out of the running for now. We just ordered a server from ServerMatrix today. So maybe our next one will come from one of these guys.
