Hidy Ho!
I am currently looking to ditch CI****. I was researching some web hosting companies. I'm thinking of signing up with WebAxxs ( http://www.webaxxs.net/). Has anybody used them? If so, what kind of experiences have you had?
I'm not looking for much in terms of web space or what not. My site is a personal one. I do need about 100mb of disk space that could possibly increase to 500mB eventually. Also looking for about 25 email addys. Anything else that comes with the package is just gravy.
Most importantly, I am looking for uptime reliability.
I'm looking to keep the hosting fees under $20/month
So would webaxxs meet my criteria?
Thanks!

hesdeadjim, you might find it useful to check out http://www.topica.com/lists/olmwebaxxsusers/read and join the mailing list. This is actually a list started by a group of people who *were* *****'ers and who left for OLM/Webaxxs. I think you'll find some common topics to discuss :D

I used to be an OLM reseller three years ago, so I pretty much remember how their server is configured and how everything is being setup. Few months ago, some friends and I decided to build a website ... without my knowledge .. he opened an account with ***** .. :(

When I telnet into the server .. surprise !! .. everything are setup the same way with OLM's server including the pre-configured scripts.

Is ***** getting their dedicated server from OLM ?.

I believe ***** *used* to be an OLM reseller, but that was (in theory) quite some time ago. They might be both using the ensim system?

It appears that ***** may be STEALING from and RIPPING off OLM!?

Sigh...The ***** scandal continues...

Anyone have any proof connecting CI and OLM? Maybe CI stole some admin software from OLM and CI never actually wrote their own software (as they so desperately claim)?

:smash:

Not Ensim .. I think only the new servers are using Ensim and not the old one.
At first, none of OLM's account use control panel. Everything went through their web order form and they activated your request in certain hour of day. But toward the end, OLM added a realtime email management which is very similar with what ***** is using .. only different layout. Maybe ***** is using their template .. who knows.

The motd in the server is the exact same one .. hehe.. :) :) :)

Even the way their GUI keeping your passwords etc.. hmm... :) :)

We moved from OLM to VDI. At OLM, they will not colo. You have to lease your servers from them. Their prices for such things as bandwidth and other needed issues are outrageous, and they are unwilling to bend or work with you. For example, if you run out of space and need another drive, you will be charged monthly. At the time we had a server there, it was $180/month for another 30 gig scsi. Sorry, but no go. We were completly out of space as well as going way over our measly bandwidth limit. They were unwilling to work with us on any of it, so we left for VDI. For all the negative talk here of VDI, it was still far better (from our experience) than was OLM.

If your server goes down, you can figure it will be down about 8 hours at OLM. If you need support, you can only get their support center full of people who dont know anything and always say "we will have to forward this to an admin" etc, etc. List goes on. At least you can call VDI directly to get problems resolved. And they dont charge outragious fees to fix, replace, or add something onto your machine. Usually a low one time fee.

I would far recomend VDI over OLM. I will admit OLM has better uptime, but that is the only thing they beat out VDI on..

Oh .. I agree about OLM's support team. They don't know anything other than how to reset your password. You have to actually tell them what to do ... They don't even know how to restart apache .. hehehe..
