View Full Version : nameserver check please
akashik 09-03-2000, 12:34 AM Hi,
If anyone has a spare few minutes could you confirm something for me?
I need to know if my nameservers are working of not. At the moment I'm presuming so, and am just waiting for them to spread through the net so I can attach my domain to them from the other end.
They are:
ns.akashik.net
ns2.akashik.net
Sam Spade seems to say yes they are, but so far nothing else (ie NSI Registry) sees them...
Hmm, starting to feel I'm over posting on this whole domain thing so I'll let it go after this. Nothing worse than a dog with a bone.

UNIXIELHOST 09-03-2000, 01:11 AM Seems it's working fine on my end and I can access your site
Nice layout you have though :)
akashik 09-03-2000, 02:55 AM Thanks for the nice words about the site. The problem is it works all ok, but that's because I'm still using my old nameservers. I haven't been able to attach the new ones (the ns.akashik.net ones) yet as either have haven't spread yet or the registration hasn't gone through yet.
A DNS check seems to tell me they are registered now (presumably by checking the opensrs dir) but I'm in no way an expert on tracking DNS and the such. I've been told by someone who I consider a bit of an expert that they are, but we're both using the same program.
Going to that ghastly webpanel I've mentioned before tells me the ns.akashik.net nameserver doesn't exist, but I'm thinking it's just a propogation issue, but confirmation from some of you guys and girls would help my hair stay in a little longer.
#special note: patience isn't a virtue I have a lot of sadly hence my asking this here instead of waiting for my old host to finish their cheezy poops before they answer their email once a day (or is that once a week? *lol*)
I'm figuring at least a few other people have had much the same issue at one time or another with registering your own nameservers and am just wondering if there's a way to check for registration without being able to access opensrs's management panel (which I discussed elsewhere so I won't rehash old issues). I don't really want to hound my new support too much over it as they've been wonderful and this isn't really their problem being outside the server. I've been pointed in all the right directions but would like a few secondary opinions if you have the time :)
whoo-hoo, next level *looks at description*

UNIXIELHOST 09-03-2000, 12:43 PM akashik,
I have same problem for my website nameservers sarasotaweb.net is screwed up, I did update nameservers but its still pointing to my old website
I'm really pissed as well
akashik 09-03-2000, 12:45 PM Hmmm. Ok, well if people can see a nameserver out there with ns.akashik.net in it then I suppose it must be active. I'll just have to wait till I can change it over from the ns.hostmatters.com ones.
(not leaving them btw, just settling in for a long stay *lol*).
As for the reseller comment, it's been bugging me the past week actually, and I agree. Since coming to this forum I've learnt a lot and have a much clearer opinion of the industry. Actually if I could hook those nameservers to my site and get it out of the way I'd be neck deep in rebuilding my site *again* Don't take that too much too heart - just poke me in the eye and call me ignorant.
akashik 09-03-2000, 12:51 PM sarasota,
You're almost in the same boat as me too huh? I can feel your pain from here. Hehe, at least you've been able to update them... I'm hoping for that in the next few days - *if* they got registered in the first place.
Right now, I'm done with Dreamhost and Tucows and have started to email opensrs's compliance email address. If that doesn't work I guess the only person further up the food chain than them is God - and he and I don't get along too well *chuckle*
UNIXIELHOST 09-03-2000, 01:08 PM ya I came from hostmatters (parked domain) there but it has been not updated *snickers*
I guess give it few days, if not I'll contiune to bitch up :)
akashik 09-03-2000, 06:17 PM whoo hoo!
Dreamhost finally came to the party and now I can get into opensrs. Nameservers are changed, the sun is up, and just got email from two different design clients saying their checks are on the way.
I feel like dancing!
*does the happy dance of joy*
FINALLY! Master of my own domain... *chuckle*
sleep dep.... kicking in... must go to bed.... *ZZzzzzzz*
UNIXIELHOST 09-03-2000, 06:52 PM Really that fast eh?
Mine still show old site not new
My connection must suck ! even they dont clear cache yet
akashik 09-04-2000, 03:11 AM Well my problem is fixed 'technically'. I still have to wait for it all to propogate yet. Hopefully it goes through fast and hopefully everything is okey-doeky when it does.
UNIXIELHOST 09-04-2000, 11:01 AM I got my DNS worked and now its pointing to my new server
yay.. I got some customers coming in but havent setup
