I was wondering if this black out that we just had up north there could happen in the south like in florida or something.?

Why not? From, what I've read, the power grid is worse in some parts of the country, probably better in others. When it happened up here, we were only at 75% capacity, so we weren't overtaxed. Although it didn't affect as many people, there were outages not too long ago out west that hit 9 states. So yeah, it could probably happen again somewhere else.

while I agree that it could happen anywhere, I believe the southeast is better off than some.

the Southern Company (parent company for most of the Power companys in the southeast) have done a good job updating their infastructure. I was discussing this fact with a friend of mine in that works for GA Power last night and he detailed a lot of upgrades that he has been involved with over the past few years. He was confident that the issues that most likely caused this one, are what they have been working on to upgrade.

I for one support Bush's plan to modernize the grid, who's with me?
