Thats right I get a lack of sleep, and its killing me

I get almost no support emails, because things are stable, but yet i cant sleep ever.

Now before i started this company, i slept all the time, now no sleep.

I think many more are like me, and i figure since the medical world has a illness for just about everything, im thinking they should issue one for the hosting sleep depravation, which is a serious medical illness :)

Just a thought

Joe

I've heard it called "On Call syndrome", as well as "Pager syndrome". Generally it effects anyone who may, at any time, be called upon to deal with an emergency situation.

You know what the worst part is, is when you go away for the weekend, because unless you have a good staff there is no breaks. I get away for the weekend in Michigan about once a month, but still, checking on the server, checking emails, cell phone by me. Is that even considerd a vacation?

I have to say though, I do like what I do, I mean I think we all do in a way, i mean, if we didnt, we prob would not do so much support and what not.

What you need is a vacation. Go hiking or backpacking in the middle of no where. Make sure there is no CDPD, 802.11b, or any wireless coverage. Make sure nobody can contact you unless they hike 5 miles or more. Setup a tent and sleep. Take a SO with you (thats a little rare in this biz though)

Me --> :nuts:

Me in woods --> !!! :nuts: !!!

I was a Corporate DBA for 12 years, everytime my phone rings after 10 PM I start to sweat and my heart beats rapidly. Still have a phobia about talking on the phone.

I'm also on call 24/7... I've always had problems getting to sleep, but my main problem is when I'm asleep almost nothing will wake me up! I've had pagers, mobiles, phones, e-mails all coming in...

:sleeping:

...like a baby.

Aah well, it stops anyone paging you again :)
