well i am a newbie---well, ive had puter for 3 years but done not much more than surf...(yeah, i can hear ya'll laughin'). Anyways, I am just considering a site of my own or two. Gonna try to get this thing to make some money-lol. Yeah, I know it is hard, been doing some research..
Need some ideas or suggestions on web hosting on a site such as a site with an e-book etc.. I suppose this wouldnt take much space etc? I am assuming bare neccesities.
Also, thinking bout a site with a more long term goal of building subscribers or return visitors... I assume I would need more there?
I was just clicking around and saw lowesthosting.com---is that type of stuff any good? says unlimited bandwith etc. which will not be a problem for a long time to come im sure---lol.. sounds like cheap or small price....
Anything else you can offer in suggestions would be greatly appreciated..... Remember, im newbie.... go light on jargon--lol.
Thanks lowesthosting.com ah forgot to do the link thing , sorry.......

Well, actually I would stay clear of the 'unlimited bandwidth' type offering because there is simply no such thing as unlimited. The host would be charged for the bandwidth the server in which you are hosted on and thus the more people taking advantage of the 'unlimited' deal on the machine, the more the web host would have to squeeze more sites in to make ends meet. Usually service quality and network speed would suffer as a result.
Usually the unlimited bandwidth type sites may have some unwritten law to kick those who are a liability to them. Some do mention this at the offset some don't.
I remember being a newbie once and I went for an unlimited bandwidth and unlimited disk space type web host years ago. I keep finding I am constantly out of space and my sites goes down almost every once in a few days. Of course I got booted out because I was using over 1 gb of bandwidth for that month and I was told I was hogging the system.
Go for a web host which states an actual bandwidth limit to the plan. They usually would hold their site of the bargain. But if it looks too good to be true, chances are, they are. Usually those web hosts which seems a little more pricey would last for a long time.
All the best in your search.

For Hosting, Look for plans with 30 - 100 megabytes of storage and 1 - 5GB of storage space. Look to spend about $7 - $10 monthly for a quality host that will ensure your business website is available when customers try to visit it. Don't automatically assume that since a host charges this much, they are reputable. You still have to do your homework.
Now a bit about running an online business. _Usually_ to be successful you need to do something that other people don't do. Or target a niche market (like www.oakville.com a website that serves the community of Oakville, Ontario). With E-Books, if you look on ebay, 100s of people are selling them for dirt cheap. I wouldn't recommend going that route. Be Unique! :)
Hope this helps!

First, no such thing as "unlimited anything" when it comes to services provided through a Server. Hosting compay may choose to offer "unlimited" support and that is acceptable. A Server cannot provide anything "unlimited" and any Hoster saying so, is not looking out for "your" best interest.
Second, I have found, through personal experience and observation, people make buying decisions based on the following variables and in the following order:
- cost
- features
- service/support
The smart shopper will always do some price comparison while relating to features.
"Got a great deal on Web Hosting."
"Yeah, how much do you pay."
"$2.99 a year"
"Hey, that is a good price, I'll have to check them out."
If they've been comparison shopping and know they get 10 times less at that price, than someone offering 10 times more for double the price, they may think it is not such a good deal." Or is it? If they can get all the features they need/desire for $2.99 then they too, will probably think it's a good deal.
The third variable is what usually comes back to bite people, because they don't pay enough attention to it. Only when "service/support/quality" is factored in, can people understand the true value of what they have purchased. Unfortunately and especially in the Hosting market, most people dont' realize this until it's too late. :bawling:
As a newbie, which we all were at some point, I would suggest you find a Hoster providing the feature amounts mentioned by Reality Hosting, at a price of $50 - $80 year. This will allow you time to get used to; having a Web site, using the Control Panel and understanding some of the in's & out's of it all. Doesn't really matter, at this point, what the Web site is for as you are looking for the experience. Regardless of the purpose for the Web site, if you are not familiar with the tools you are using you will not be successful.
Treat your Domain name as something special, because it is. No one else can use it and you will probably have it for a long time to come. And get a Domain name now! You don't need a Hosting account to get one, but if you wait too long, the Domain name you want may no longer be available. Web Hosting will always be available. ;)
