View Full Version : .info transfer: how does it work?
cyberdao 08-12-2003, 10:14 PM When transferring .info domains, you'll need an auth code when submitting the transfer request.
Does the admin. contact then get an email to accept or deny the transfer - as it is the case with .com domains?
Or how does the admin accept the transfer?
I have a .info transfer running for nearly 5 days now and the admin told me he did not receive any mail yet and does not know what to do now ...
Thanks for your help!
greggish 08-12-2003, 10:29 PM I just put in a transfer for a .info. I'm transfering from Directnic to enom. You need to email the domain's current registrar from the listed contact email and request the auth key. Directnic emailed me the auth key. I then initiated an EPP transfer at enom and the form asked me for the auth key. That was it. It's still processing, I'll let you know when it completes...probably tomorrow. These EPP transfers with auth keys are very new so I hope it goes through ok.
cyberdao 08-12-2003, 10:35 PM Yes, the current admin contact sent me the auth code which I entered in the transfer form at registerfly.
My basic question is if the admin should get an email asking to accept or deny the transfer as it is the case with .com domains.
dmaven 08-12-2003, 10:37 PM Since there is an AUTH code that is provided I do not think they need email confirmation like a .com etc name. I transferred a number of .info and .biz names earlier this year from dotster to registerfly without issue. (getting the Auth codes from the losing registrar is sometimes the real chore)
bagfull 08-14-2003, 01:20 AM it need kind of "EPP" transfer request which involves some authorization code etc.
cyberdao 08-16-2003, 04:26 AM Thanks a lot for your feedback!
The domain has just been transferred as requested.
I know, you need a Auth Code for the transfer, but it took more than 5 days which made me kind of nervous, because registerfly told me it normally does not take longer than a few hours or 1 day to get .info domains transferred ...
greggish 08-16-2003, 05:50 AM Its been four days for my .info transfer so far, and it still hasn't completed.
D0mainGuru 08-16-2003, 06:44 AM yes i dont like this side of .info, i had one that took 5 days and i was shocked it took so long thought something had gone wrong.

Not only that, but getting the auth key can be a chore in itself. While DirectNic emailed me the key right away for the .info, I'm having trouble getting any reply at all from NameCheap. I emailed them 3 days ago requesting the key for a .org I need to transfer, and never got a reply. I just emailed them again.

exactly my feeling and the reason for posting my question
greggish 08-17-2003, 09:11 PM My .info transfer just completed. It took 5 days of processing.
greggish 08-18-2003, 03:02 AM An update on that .org I was trying to transfer from NameCheap to enom. Although my first email was lost, then they were unable to locate the auth key, and there was a misunderstanding as to whether I wanted to transfer the domain to NameCheap or away (apparently NameCheap isn't accepting .org transfers at this time). The owner, Richard, finally fixed the problem by pushing the domain directly to my enom account. That's the good thing about NameCheap, even if very rarely something goes wrong, and things take longer than they should, you can count on Richard to go out of his way to fix the problem.
cyberdao 08-18-2003, 03:07 AM Yes, Namecheap's support is really great.
I have domains with Namecheap (great support) and registerfly (great domain manager - many options like profiles, sub-accounts etc.).
