Just heard this little tidbit of information on the news.

Apparently, as a result of awful chip sales, and PC Sales slump,
intel is going to be slashing prices on processors up to 60%.
Also, apparently other parts such as ram, HardDrives, etc should have prices slashed by up to 50%.

Good news all around.

I wonder if that means one will be able to buy a top notch server for less than 1000-1500$.

Do you know when this is going to happen? I'm just about to order a new Pentium III 1,000 MHz server.

I don't know why they'd directly attribute price cuts to any one thing, unless they're just trying to cast off the blame for previously charging so much for chips.

Intel releases price cut notices several times a year, this is business as usual.

After announcing new chip availabilities at "ream me good" prices, they eventually drop prices on all lines, to move each newer/faster chip closer to mainstream.

"Nothing to see here, move along" :)

Theyre doing what AMD did to them.

AMD are making serious inroads into their business and their (questionable) reputation for superior performance.

Theyre dragging the P4 closer to mainstream and preparing for whats already lying in wait for afters.

I hear theyre planning an "all intel" pc soon, wouldnt it be strange if this was better power for price than most other companies boxes
