View Full Version : DV2 Problems?
coight 08-12-2003, 06:32 AM I know they had scheduled maintenance yesterday, and it seems the move has had a big affect on network performance. Ongoing for around 25 minutes now bad packetloss

Techark 08-12-2003, 06:42 AM Yep I called they are working on it. Not much info it seems at this time.
coight 08-12-2003, 06:44 AM Phone rang out for me and I got jeffs message :)
Andrew 08-12-2003, 06:50 AM Been down for a while now
coight 08-12-2003, 06:55 AM 40 minutes
s.h.a.zz.y 08-12-2003, 07:30 AM We are aware of the issue, it is related to the MFN connection and are working on it. All routes via the other providers are fine.

coight 08-12-2003, 07:31 AM Thanks Shazy :p
Andrew 08-12-2003, 07:32 AM Now hold the phone just one second...isn't that what Williams is for? Isn't that what BGP is for?
I could understand if it was a router or something like that, but a problem with Abovenet taking an hour to take care of?
Why was traffic not routed through other carriers if that's the case? It's not like they don't have any others.
TotalChoice 08-12-2003, 07:41 AM Give them a break, the network has been 100% for a very long time.
Shazy thanks for the update.

Give ME a break. This isn't day camp.
One thing I will do however, is to stop asking questions here...for something like this there are no right answers at WHT.
neptune1 08-12-2003, 07:54 AM Their network has started to have intermittant slow-downs since the 3rd of August, with occasional packet losses and ping times as high as 380 (instead of the usual 100-120). This slightly worries me and I feel they need to resolve this urgently.
Otherwise, their service has been impeccable.
[Edit:] The connection seems to be back to normal now.
Jim_UK 08-12-2003, 08:01 AM Things seem to have picked up within the past couple of minutes and it's now at 0% packetloss from here. Is this the same for everyone else?
TotalChoice 08-12-2003, 08:01 AM Things are back to normal.
:) :) :)
TotalChoice 08-12-2003, 08:03 AM I hope Sailor will respond to the comments by Andrew
nsdesign 08-12-2003, 08:03 AM would be nice to hear from DV2 about what's actually going on over there.....
Anyone heard the "official word" ?...
sailor 08-12-2003, 09:05 AM at about 7 am est we started taking a syn flood from spoofed addresses.
peaked at 280 mbps - packet size 1.
basically messed the network.
had nothing to do with the connections or bgp or anything else.
this type of attack will basicaly over run your router interfaces - that kind of traffic is not huge in volume - but is massive in the number of actual packets since the packet size of 1 is not normal - usually about 1000 is the packet size. so the routers get flooded with the equivalent of about 2.5 gigs of traffic to handle.
sorry for the inconvenience - we handled it as soon as we figured it out with our upstreams.
very difficult to work through and not a nice way to wake up. :(
coight 08-12-2003, 09:08 AM Sorry Jeff, I would have rang earlier however I had problems connecting to the site.
Techark 08-12-2003, 09:13 AM Ahh Jeff you needed to get up anyway;)

its the difference between waking up nice and having breakfast and having someone pepper spray you and then douse you with ice water to wake you up. the rest of the day you feel irritated.
maybe some gym time will work it out.
TotalChoice 08-12-2003, 10:17 AM lol - pepper spray for breakfast thats classic.
As always thanks Jeff. Job well done!
