Found this today and tought it would be useful since a lot of friends of mine were getting this.

Yeah, this is not only XP though, all versions of windows that are based on NT technology are effected. There has been a worm released that exploits this vulnerability, unfortunately the MS patch for the issue does not correct a DoS that is generated by the exploit.

If you server/workstation has been being rebooted this is normally an indication of a successful exploitation and backdooring of the system, I'd suggest you check over your system for suspicious files. Chances are you wont see any files from the host itself so connect to the c$ chare from another (uneffected) system and search for files created on the day these reboots happened.

So if you run a windows server i would suggest firewalling port 135 as even if you're patched your server is vuln to an RPC DoS, if you're not patched then chances are you've got some pretty serious issues to deal with.

I hae a shutdown problem,sometimes when i shutdown it locks up and doesnt do anything!!!!!! I dunno why......

I think i heard of some WIN 98 SHUTDOWN BUG but not sure.......
