View Full Version : The Best place for Best Domains at reasonable prices.
Emperor 08-11-2003, 06:57 PM | I'm really new to this and up until a few days ago, I didn't even know you could buy a domain like that. So now that I know and I heard it's better to buy it separate from a hosting service, I want to ask some questions.
What are some good, reliable places to get the domain?
What are some things to look for when buying a domain?
What are the prices for the domains? (when is too little "there must be a problem little" or when is too much?)
Thank you all. |
DevilDude 08-11-2003, 07:08 PM www.eNOM.com is best if buying in bulk. They are the best registrar. Most will agree.
www.GoDaddy.com is good imo despite horror stories.
www.NameCheap.com is good (they run off of enom)
www.RegisterFly.com is BAD.
www.web.com is offering a very good promotion right now, but I am not sure about thier service. |
dmaven 08-11-2003, 07:29 PM | www.RegisterFly.com is GOOD
www.Directnic.com is GOOD
enom.com is good for resellers |
DevilDude 08-11-2003, 10:08 PM i would NEVER recomend a reg fly company.
That includes but is not limited to:
ExpireFish.com
RegisterFly.com
NameRenters.com |
Acroplex 08-11-2003, 10:17 PM Everyone seems to have their own opinion :D
I recommend:
1) Enom.com
2) Stargate.com
3) Namecheap.com
4) Dotster.com |
HaloJones 08-11-2003, 10:27 PM I recommend registerfly, they're a fully featured registrar. |

I like all but Starg8 on that list.
I recommend registerfly, they're a fully featured registrar.
RegisterFly isn't a registrar. |
bagfull 08-11-2003, 11:48 PM If you need only one then "ENOM.COM" |
ninji 08-12-2003, 08:05 PM Stargate really isnt that bad of a place. They are located about 20 min from my office... They provide the cheapest bulk rates ive seen PERIOD. With one of the smallest required deposits... BUT They WILL email your customers when its time to re-register the domain and ask tell them time is almost up and to re-register it at stargate.com (as they are the nic and can proove such) and dont mention anything about you, the reseller or your site where they ordered the domain from, alot of customers will desregard it as spam or a mailtrap like netsol kept doing, but it is legit and they have teh right to do so, and alot of people will just renew it direct at stargate and you loose your profit....
Stargate is a family owned and semi family operated business, and almost everyone ive talked to their has been Extremly nice. However when I consulted the head of such matters about not contacting my customers to renew with them instead of me, i was basically told 'if you dont like it, go somewhere else or make your customers renew them with you sooner' which I felt to be quite rude considering im pumping my cash into stargate....
ENOM is your best choice.
Web.com i havnt heard any complaints with.
Wildwestdomains.com will generate a website for you, is a little more costly but alot of people use, no personal expereince to judge it on. |

I would suggest enom only for multiple purchases.
Stargate really isnt that bad of a place.
They have had huge security holes apparently. |
4solutions 08-12-2003, 08:53 PM Wow... I wish we could all just get along :D
If you want to register just one or just a few domains at a reliable registrar for a great price I recommend either:
www.namecheap.com
www.powerpipe.com
Both of these companies are enom resellers which is a GOOD thing (as Martha Stewart would say).
Stargate is good for support, but it concerns me that they keep changing their pricing. It's $14.00... no it's $7.99, no it's $12.00. I like consistency. |
lisadragon 08-12-2003, 09:44 PM Namecheap.com is good.
000domains.com is hassle-free. |
eHostSpace 08-13-2003, 12:46 AM Nothing much but eNom.com |
Gary111 08-13-2003, 03:04 AM Does anyone know www.onlinenic.com, personally I think it's good. Their price is great, if you are a reseller, the GTLd price could be as low as $6.69, and they also offer good service.
But if you want to choose the right registrar for you, it would be better if you can log on to some of the sites people have suggested, narrow down your choices by comparison and then maybe go back to see if anybody have further suggestions. Good luck! |
DevilDude 08-13-2003, 04:13 AM Why do you care about hte price?
For 1-5 domains, does it matter if the price is 6.95 or 9.99? |
James K 08-13-2003, 04:40 AM How much is a domain at Stargate? I can't seem to see the price anywhere at my initial glance at the site. |

How much is a domain at Stargate? I can't seem to see the price anywhere at my initial glance at the site. IMO Stargate has made the strategic decision to concentrate on hosting rather than domain registration. That is why, there is NO mention of pricing until you create an account and are ready to actually pay for the domain (second to the last step).
Currently, new domain registrations are $14.00, transfers are $8.95, and renewals are $12.00. But like I said earlier, this pricing is subject to change at the whim of Stargate. |
bagfull 08-14-2003, 08:26 AM Many others do the same way... to see their price we have to go through the full process till we reach near the checkout button.... There we are shown the price... it used to be with Register.com and netsol.com also... |
Emperor 08-17-2003, 11:02 PM Question, why exactly is it better to purchase a domain name somewhere other than where you're getting your hosting from? |
g0re1337 08-18-2003, 01:44 AM At my current resellerplan i purchase domains at $4.00, i was earlier with directi wich was prety good but abit expensive.
Problem with the current plan is that i cant get around their reseller plan as my customers must order a hostingplan at same time, its a good offer, but not good enough. I need to be able to offer domainnames under $5.00
Reason im so critical on the price is because my business is very fresh and in order to be competetive to other domainsellers i either need to beat them on price or get that little extra $1-2 per sale to be able to finance a advertising plan. Can anyone help me out, or should i just contact icann ? |
nuthin 08-18-2003, 02:16 AM I register most of my domains through Godaddy.com, haven't had a problem with them.
I also use occasionaly registerfly.com
also haven't had a bad experience with them.
Both offer good control panels, which you should look for when registering your domain name IMO.
I personally wouldn't pay more than $10 a year for a domain name registration.
You should register a domain yourself, seperate from your hosting company, because alot of hosting companies register domains in _there_ names and not yours, so if you ever decide to choose hosting somewhere else, unethical companies could hold your domain 'hostage'.
good luck with your choice! |
