View Full Version : MCHost is down.
greggish 08-06-2001, 09:23 AM I was considering them for a reselling plan and went back to check the details and they're down. It's not just their homepage since I remembered one of their clients is newedge.com and they're down too. I'll be looking to see how long it takes them to get back up.
GetMeHosted 08-06-2001, 09:56 AM Seems to be up for me
greggish 08-06-2001, 10:12 AM Strange...Still down for me. After your post I thought maybe it was a DNS problem with my ISP, but I cant get there by IP address either. Can anybody else get to them?
WebSnail.net 08-06-2001, 10:16 AM Interestingly all the ftp and mail facilities are working fine... I suspect either their Apache web server is down or there's an upgrade going on...
I'm already emailed support so hopefully we should have an answer soon

Can't go to mchost.com
pcltd 08-06-2001, 11:49 AM For info:
I use MCHost, and checked earlier today when mysite was also down.
One of the disks has filled up to 100%, so is creating problems. There's abviously something awry (very unusual for these guys), because the said disk is normally very much on the empty side!
I'm sure they're doing all they can to fix it asap.
pc.
MCHost-Marc 08-06-2001, 12:13 PM We're working on it and we will have it back up very soon and all clients will receive a detailed email from us about the downtime.
MCHost-Marc 08-06-2001, 01:07 PM Everything fixed. We are very sorry for the inconvenience and all customers should receive an email shortly. Everything is back to normal now ;)
BenDoherty 08-06-2001, 01:31 PM What happend mark i was just about to sign up with you, nothing happend hsa it?

greggish 08-06-2001, 01:57 PM Marc, would you mind posting here what the cause of the problem was? I noticed one of your customers posted here that the problem was that one of the HD's filled up to 100%...which I noticed on your support forum was the same problem you had a few days ago. If this is the case why does this same problem keep happening and what will you do to prevent it from happening again? I'd like to sign up, but I'm a little concerned.
BenDoherty 08-06-2001, 02:06 PM Ditto
techforce 08-07-2001, 01:34 AM I signed up with MCHost the other day. So far I am very happy with the following:
connection speed
response time
quality of hardware/software
havnt had any compaints yet, except the one downtime. Anyway just thought I would share this info with yall.

MCHost-Marc 08-07-2001, 02:03 AM The cause of the problem was that the /tmp partition unexpectedly filled up last night and caused the apache webserver to lock up. We now have 2 more technicians monitoring our server 24/7 to ensure that this won't happen again. The problem we had a few days ago was caused by a CPanel update (which was a problem beyond our control) that overloaded the server at midnight at the same time as one of our customers (which has been moved to another server yesterday) caused a high load on the server.
Again, i sincerely apologize for the incovenience. There is absolutely nothing to worry about, everything is running perfect now and yesterday we have reached 1000 websites that are hosted on our servers. We are expanding very fast but will also make sure that both our support and servers stay at a top performance.
newedge 08-07-2001, 08:59 AM Just wanted to voice my commitment to Marc and MCHost.com. I am very happy with Marc so far and his response time has been way above average.
This incedent is an issolated event, that is not the norm. I still wouldn't hessitate about recommending their service to anyone.
party 08-07-2001, 03:19 PM Wow Kiwi,
You had your grand opening a couple of months ago (i saw you state that in a post you made in the advertising forum).......and you`ve already managed to pull in 1,000 customers/websites!
That`s very impressive. How on earth did you manage to get 1,000 customers in two months.......tell me your secret!
 :)
MCHost-Marc 08-07-2001, 03:26 PM Moderators: Feel free to edit this post if it is going into the advertising-direction. We will be releasing a marketing guide to our resellers within the next few days that contains all the 'secrets' - at no cost. If we decide to release it to non-customers, i will let everyone here know of course ;)
Note: Should this post get edited by a moderator, you can contact me anytime at marc@mchost.com. Nothing against moderators, but i don't want this reply to look like an advertisement :D
party 08-07-2001, 03:56 PM Kiwi,
Your post has made me severely depressed :(
If you really managed to get yourself 1,000 customers in just a couple of months....then that is just incredible.
I wish i could do that. :(
MCHost-Marc 08-07-2001, 04:14 PM We have almost 3 months of very hard work behind us, including countless 24-hour days. There are a few key-features that you will need to follow. You need to focus on one specific niche in the webhosting industry. Focusing on small, medium, large, reseller and dedicated packages at the same time will rarely get you anywhere. Also make sure that you maintain a positive and professional impression *both* outside of your company with your clients and inside of your company with your employees. The best way to grow is word-of-mouth. Even if you only have a small but solid customer base at the start, it might take some time but your happy clients will refer their friends to you. Once you've worked your way up and the road to success is open, remember to share that road with your customers by keeping up your high level of service and support.
I hope this helps :)
WebSnail.net 08-07-2001, 04:24 PM I guess the other point to make...
3 months is the time since starting up with the server... There'll be about XX years behind that in preparation, patience, learning, study and a lot of good common sense...
There is NO get rich scheme out there unless you happen to have the winning lottery ticket.
