Can you explain me how is calculate the monthly bandwidth usage?

Are the outgoing and incoming traffics added, or is the bandwidth usage only based on the greatest of the two?

If the server traffic is monitored via MRTG.

The monthly average in and average out is added and use the following equation:
Avg. Out + Avg. In / 8 bits x 60 seconds x 60 minutes x 24 hours x 30.5
days = total bandwidth.

Is it honest ?

are you trying to calculate for reasons of estimating what your monthly bill will be? ...because the big thing there would be HOW your provider bills for bandwidth, without knowing that your calculations would be useless.

Different hosts do it different ways, even with MRTG. You host should be able to explain it for you.
