I'm trying to decide between reseller plans that offer WHM for separate domains and shared plans that allow you to do "Add-on Domains".
I already have reseller hosting with WHM, so I know what that's all about, but I've never bothered to try add-on domains since I could just create a new CPanel account for each domain. So what's the functional difference between the two? Do you get the same interface and all the same capabilities with the add-on domain, or are there some limitations?

Add-on domains - Manage under cpanel, shares all resources as main cpanel account, can't limit bw on each add-on domain
Extra Domain - Manage under a 2nd cpanel account, can limit resources

Also..
WHM is really the superior way of doing it. We've had some *terrible* things happen with add-on domains where either the clients remove the domain and try to re-add and it fails, or any number of other weirdnesses. If it's more than a couple of domains for a personal account, you really want whm access.
Just my opinion.

Thanks for the responses. So it sounds like you have all the same functionality with add on domains, you just share resources. IIRC, the add on domain sits within the parent domain's home directory, right? That seems weird to me.
David, now that you mention it, I have heard of some weird things happening with add-on domains. I *do* want WHM access but I was trying to go cheap since this isn't for my mission-critical stuff. I think I end up relearning the "nothing is cheap" lesson every once in a while...maybe I'll skip it this time. ;)

IMHO it really depends on your host and what you're planning to do with it. If you just need another domain hosted and you aren't planning much out of the ordinary, you might considered just saving some cash and going with a shared account w/ add-on domain feature.
However, if you're planning on selling space or hosting other people, I would definitely recommend going with the reseller and the WHM. Or if cost isn't issue, go with it anyways ;)
