I had the sad misfortune of watching these two movies within a week of each other. Absolutely identical accept one is in a park and one is on a city street. One other thing they both have in common is that they both are terrible.

Liberty Stands Still (Wesley Snipes, Tanya Allen)
The Phone Booth (Colin Farrell, Kiefer Sutherland as the voice)

I actually watched Phone Booth, the whole entire movie, even though the name of the movie, obviously phone booth, i didnt know the whole entire movie would be taken place at a phone booth, the plot wasnt all that bad, but it was totally a waste of time just watching a guy stuck in a phone booth for over hours.

Haven't heard of Liberty Stands Still before, maybe I'll rent it sometime. But I thought Phonebooth was really good and will get the DVD sometime.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who noticed this. I saw "Liberty Stands Still," followed by "Phone Booth." I did like both movies, but the premise is nearly identical.

Am I the only one who didn't like either one of these movies? Maybe I'm just cynical but the premise of both was absurd and there were so many holes in the plots I thought they were Swiss made.

I've also seen both but I personally liked Phone Booth better, it just felt more intense than the other.

I thought phone booth was awesome...I was trying to watch it while I worked on a project...

needless to say I didn't get any work done.

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

I noticed the same thing when I saw them. Both of them sucked, the plot/story line was absolutely horrible.

I've never seen Liberty Stands Still, but I did just se Phone Booth on DVD last week. I did see Phone Booth and have to say that it is one of the worst movies I have seen in a loooong time. That includes Matrix Reloaded. ;)

I saw Liberty Stands Still on Sky the other week - and laughed at the fact it's _exactly_ the same premise as Phonebooth. I'm always amazed at the way film makers seem to steal ideas from each other in such an obvious way.

uber geek liberty stands still was made probably 2 years before phonebooth... but the phonebooth promoters neglected to acnowledge this fact and said they came up with this amazingly unique plot...

i even saw colin farrell in an interview saying "i read the script and i just had to be involved i mean the storyline is so great its something thats never been done before..." i mean how can he not have heard of liberty stands stilll i mean its got wesley snipes in it for gods sake!

I actually found Phone Booth to be a good movie. :) A lot of strategy went into it. Probably the most low-budget movie made since the 1990's, but it wasn't bad at all.

Keeps you on your feet.

Ciqala - I hadn't realised Liberty Stands Still was made that long before Phonebooth (in which case the whole "inspiration" thing is the other way round) - I though LSS was a made-for-TV type alternative for Phonebooth, which Sky TV seems to specialise in!

<edit> According to www.imdb.com they were both made in 2002?

Well i saw LSS on sky box office before they even announced the release of phone booth... but i remember on sky when i pressed the info button it said it was made in 2001/2002 and phone booth was released in 2003 if i'm not mistaken.

Very very rarely does a film come out that is unique in its plot, the last film that did that for me was The Matrix, before that possibly Pulp Fiction, virtually all films take a premise from other films including nearly all Oscar nominated films so to attack Phone Booth simply because it has the same premise as LSS is unfair, the only question that needs to be asked is "is it any good" and the answer imo is YES.
But hey we talking about films here and i doubt if there are 2 human beings alive that would pick out the same top 20 films that they like, we all are so different.

We all have different expectations and preferences. For me, a good movie is a movie where i want to look till the end. For a good movie, i won't leave my coach for a minute.

Phone Booth most definately had the idea first, as the script was kicked around for several years. In the meantime, before they could acutally make a deal to get Phone Booth made (Jim Carrey was going to star in it at one point), some hacks made Liberty Stands Still.

I haven't seen Phone Booth, but Liberty was bad enough for 2 movies.

These things happen over and over. It's history. Nobody remember the "Armageddon" era, when a new asteroid terrorised out planet every week
