Hi,

Now I want to know what job you guys have done in the past that you have hated the most.

I used to work in a Post Room during my 3 month summer university break, and i absolutely hated it. I had to stuff envolopes 8 1/2 hours a day, 5 days a week. The pay was pretty good as I was temping.

Another example would be when I was contracted to do a complete site design for a local company. The sold double glazing windows, I had to scan in literately hundreds of pictures to use on their website as a brochure.

Would anyone else like to share their worst job experiences?

regards

Essexguy

Peeling carrots on a 12 hour night shift after being told we would be packing vegitables. Soaking wet and shaking due to the water and cold weather and no gloves provided. My hands turned orange. Lasted one night after which I told them where to stick their misleading advert.

I'd have to say that flipping burgers for 8+ hour days at Wendy's was not so enjoyable...

Easy one.

Years back I worked in an industrial laundry, sorting hospital linen (including theater sheets) for the washers. Anything you can squeeze out of a human body passed in front of me every day - all for minimum wage.

The positive side of it was I got a full range of immunization shots for free :D

I haven't really had a bad job yet. I've only had two jobs so far. Just the one I'm currently at, and then my hosting company.

Not so long ago I started a thread on my "Boss from Hell." The job itself wasn't so bad, just some pretty basic coding. The downside of the job itself was that it wasn't very challenging. But what made it the worst job ever was my boss. She was petty, mean-spirited, bitter, angry and overall one of the worst human beings I have ever met. She made every day just awful.

Never had a job that I hated. I always get work that I love.

There was this one job where I ran a webhosting company... ;)

Back in college I worked at Target briefly. Running the registers was fine, but stocking shelves was horrible. It was annoying because it seemed that nothing was labelled properly, thus you had no idea where things were supposed to go.

When I was 16 I worked at my grandfather's marble (white rock) mill. I would have attach a bag to a fill spout, open a chute until 100 lbs of the rock were in the bag and then run the bag through a heavy duty sewing machine which would seal the bag. The the bag was stacked on a pallet until they were about 30 bags high. The only cool part was then driving the fork lift to move the filled pallet to start the process all over. By the way this was in the middle of the desert outside of Tucson Arizona during the summer.

To drunk to get home, so go book a night at the Travel Lodge.

thats a usual night out for me except i usually walk home as its not too far...

but it sounds like a plan... lets get onto headsurfer so he can book his flights and the travellodge's penthouse suite (its nothing posh they just scatter some adult publications around the place :D)... vegas, pah! it pales in comparison to the beauty of the lights outside the ikon/diva complex :D

I think you just won the prize for "grossest job held by a wht member". Good job!

My worst was working at a supermarket during highschool. I was a 'bag boy', and that means I got all of the worst jobs they could find for us to do in the store - including cleaning the bathrooms. Cleaning public bathrooms is horrible - people are soooo gross..

I also got the good job of cart-fetcher from the parking lot, which was a huge blacktop that was multiple acres. During storms/snow/baking heat we still had to run out there and get them, and manually push them back inside.

Never again ;)

I worked @ Radio Shack for a couple months, and that was probably the worst job. It just sucked having to ask people for their name and address everytime they wanted to buy something as trivial as batteries.

Not to mention my ethical dilemma about having to actually SELL people computers from there...talk about overpriced!

Nope, he hasn't won it yet. Still more entries are welcome.
Winner will be announced at a later date :D

PS. unofficially akashik has it in the bag.

The Southern California Exposition (fancy name for a Fair or Carnival) was held near my home growing up. This is a really big Fair with 10's and maybe 100's of thousands of visitors daily.

My job was to go around at 6:00AM jumping in trash cans to compact the trash so they wouldn't have to pick it up as often. My boss was a carney named "Gator." Needless to say, I didn't last too long. I don't even think I ever picked up my check.

Delivering a highly respectable gazette to embassies in Athens; the problem was I had long hair, tight jeans and a jacket with the Iron Maiden logo :D so I'd get odd looks at the US embassy while at the waiting room.

Night shift at Barney's Express Mart when I was 18. It was basically in the ghetto and was a habitual loitering place for street punks. Ugh, what was I thinking taking that job?

I worked at a slaughter house right off the kill floor for close to 6 months. We killed 700-800 cows a day.

Car hop at the A&W was the worst! We'd actually fight over who had to go get the order from any car full of teenage boys (they would leave "tips" like a nickle in the bottom of a partially full mug of root beer and other gross things. Even got a condom stuck in a mug once...). On top of that, had the groping boss from hell to deal with too.

Runner up was working in a printing shop. I had a boss who would tell me to do something, then when I did it he would yell at me for doing it (!). Talking to others during break I was told to "get used to it". I think maybe I lasted a week there.

Timechange i mentioned your name and they said you should stop calling or else they'll contact the authorities... any idea why?

and my worst job was working for a freight forwarding place... I joined at 16 with a view to working on their it systems except i knew more than the it guy so he got me moved to a different department to save his cushy 4 hour day and all the equipment he could steal job. then with 1 weeks experience in a freight forwarding firm i was in charge of exports to france for the whole company... the b*stards sacked me at the end of my trial period on the day before my birthday... :(

I've been 'temping' or contracting for over 10 yrs. This one sounds pretty boring, but there are a lot of other boring jobs as well. I used to get calls at like 7am in the morning for a job at 8am and would never know from day to day where I would be going sometimes. The only 2 jobs I had to back away from were sorting chips at a major potato chip manufacturer and unloading chairs from a major retail distributor both of which were due to heat exhaustion. When you have sweat rolling down your body and barely able to even stand, then you're useless when it comes to labor.
Another example would be when I was contracted to do a complete site design for a local company. The sold double glazing windows, I had to scan in literately hundreds of pictures to use on their website as a brochure.

Reminds me of an assignment I had with a lighting company to create a catalog. They probably had hundreds of different pictures of lighting fixtures to put in this catalog. From what I remember, it took months to complete and I had to drive clear across town through rush hour traffic for a job barely over minimum wage. If it weren't for the distraction of the sunset, I probably would have ran over someone trying to get home.

Selling icecreams in a terrible heath, on the beach :) (summerjob some years ago)

The first days : a nightmare

After some days i could stand the sun better, the sand, etc, had no problems anymore in walking for hours over there.

Eventually it became my funniest job ever. Sounds weird, but it was a great experience.

I always say 555-1212 and smile. They just look at me and input the info I give them. It's a lot quicker than refusing.

Used to live in Harlow until about a month ago, well still got my place there living in Spain now, might have to go back unless they sort out my health insurance :bawling:

I used to be a Drain Cleanerfor various companies, ie Power rod (like dyno rod, Roto Rooter etc)
Ok stood on a ladder about 25 feet up, undoing an access plate on a 4" sewer pipe that fed the Chemical Bank in London, being new and naive i opened it up to find that 15 floors of backed up sewage pour onto me, could not jump or death was imminent so had to stay and take it, those were the days:D
Sad thing is i did that job for years and finally rose to being the project manager at Roto Rooter in California, excellent money and i went far but the above story is just one of many.

The Essex lads will know about Hanbury Manor, the golf course , Gazzas wedding etc, stood in a 20 foot deep hole there under similar circumstances, like i say there are loads.
