What has been the experiences that you have had when leasing a dedicated server? The areas I am most concerned with right now is setup time.

How long after contract signing and payment was your server on line?

What kind of communications should I expect from the company setting up my server?

Is a week too long or not long enough to get a new server installed and running?

Thanks for any and all replies,

John

It all depends the company should tell you how long your setup period is, but if its a customized configuration you should expect to wait, as alot more things come into play like they have to build it, burn it in, maybe even ship in the right parts. However if the servers in stock, i wouldnt think you should have to wait for than 48 hours, if your paying by credit card or something like that.

I think it really depends on the company. 3-7 business days isnt too bad.

Keep in mind what charles said if they have to order parts or what not.

Also they should mention it too you before contract signing

Thanks for the responses.

The server I ordered was nothing special. I was originally told that the server would be on line in 3 to 4 days. Then it was 5 days. Now no communications whatsoever.

Now, I know when someone buys something from me, I make sure that I communicate with them. This is rather unsettling.

Maybe by Monday.....BTW, the provider has an excellent reputation in this forum, one of the reasons I decided to go with them.

Thanks again,

John

Yea, I was wondering the same thing (setup time etc.). I just ordered a server also. Don't want to be a pain, but I want to know when it will be on-line :D

It really doesn't matter what the reason is, all you have to do is TELL ME!

If you don't have good customer support, pretty soon you won't have any customers. Take that to the bank! Write that on a board and nail it to your wall where you can see it!

i agree wsdhnet. But it is atleast better knowing what the reason is then just not knowing at all. Communication is the best thing.

That is what I am saying. If you are having problems, whatever they are, you need to keep your customers in the loop. I had planned to start setting up my server and installing software, testing etc. this week. Now I have no idea when I can start and that puts my whole business plan in an endless loop. If I knew something, anything, I could at least alter my plans.

Did you find any info out from your provider? What is the status of your server?

Yes, I called them today and they indicated that it would be on line today. So far nothing though!

I'd like to know who it was -- if nothing else, to set realistic expectations of service from them.
