Hello.

Please if you can help me...

Im having this on MSSQL Server on a W2K machine

SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 1556 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.

I was see that this is a known error Microsoft bug and there are some ixes, but the point is that im unable to start the SQL server to work around. The message that i have when i try to start it from Enterprise Manager that says me:

SQL Server does not exist or access denied ConnectionOpen (Connect())..

The password is right obviusly.

I was see that Microsoft was released a fix for this but when i try to apply the Service Pack this is stopping on authentication.

PLEASE!! Any tip for me?
and please, use simply words, im not an expert

THANKS!!!!

Yep, you have hit a bug in MS SQL.

- You get this error everytime you try to start SQL or does it do it when you try to do a query or connection?
- Are you running SP1?
- What type of machine is it on? How much memory? What brand computer?
- What other software is installed on the machine (IIS, Mail Server, etc)?
- Have you looked at the dump file, what was the last thing MS SQL was doing before the crash?
- Do you have any databases installed?

This is a MS C Code error in the actually SQLSERVR.EXE and support DLLs.

Hey! Thanks!

- You get this error everytime you try to start SQL or does it do it when you try to do a query or connection?
When i try to start SQL

- Are you running SP1?
No. Now i know about that SP

- What type of machine is it on? How much memory? What brand computer?
256ECCRAM, PIII 866, is an ECUI's machine

- What other software is installed on the machine (IIS, Mail Server, etc)?
IIS5, iMail Server 6.05, all other components from W2K Server

- Have you looked at the dump file, what was the last thing MS SQL was doing before the crash?

SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 1556 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.

And no much more, in fact SQL has starting all processes and at the last says "Server does not exist or access denied" well to to get this.

- Do you have any databases installed?

Yes... almost 25

Now i have unintalled SQL and im going to the big problem to put all that DB on...

Im very thankfull to you

First off, try to apply SQL SP1 to the server. See if that helps.

- When did the problem start, just recently?
- Have you been running SQL long?
- What was the last thing you did before the problem?
- Have you contacted ECUI yet, they should also be able to help you?

We will get this licked!

First off, try to apply SQL SP1 to the server. See if that helps.

- When did the problem start, just recently?
Yesterday

- Have you been running SQL long?
3 months

- What was the last thing you did before the problem?
Nothing... Setup some domains and restart the machine periodicly for ECUI's suggestion

- Have you contacted ECUI yet, they should also be able to help you?
No, they not. Im very newbie on this. I have 750 customers on Linux machines and i was start to offer W2K services 3 months ago with a Dedicated on ECUI, but they dont like newbies

When i try to open Enterprise Manager im getting SQL Server does not exist or access denied

Is SQL Server running?

Thanks

All SQL Servers are online, however I do not see where you have any SQL databases therefore you have no default access.
You may desire to actually have a database configured, you only have db_owner privileges to you own databases you do not have db_creator privileges.

First at all. Try to understand that my english is not the best. I will try to explain me.

I have SQL running on mco-d31 and if im not mistaked i dont need to request SQL Databases because i pay the monthly fee to have SQL Server running on mco-d31.
Also, i have MANY SQL databases on mco-d31 that was running without any problem, i was restarted mco-d31 half hour ago and the SQL connection was lost.

Please understand me if im not explaining well. Is my poorly english that cause problems

Thanks
Pablo

Ok, so SQL Server is running on your server, then why would you be opening a support issue to ask if SQL Server is running? You would log into your server via pcAnywhere and check the services not ask us if it is running.

As a matter of fact it`s not running currently and a reboot of your server failed to start it also - Therefore I think you need to take a look at the server and whatever required the reboot would be the best place to start looking for the problem. According to your servers log files it has not been running since 7:40 PM according to your servers time.

[8/3/2001 3:12:33 PM - criener]
Just for the ticket logs, that means SQL Server has been down for 1 hour 30 min.

[8/3/2001 3:39:50 PM - futurahost]
I was reboot the machine because time ago ECUI Support was say to me that the best way to avoid Filled Swap File problems is periodic reboots.
I use PC Anywhere... Im reporting this because when i was reboot the machine and i was logon through PC Anywhere i was see that one service was failed to start, then i was go to System Logs through Computer management and i was see that SQL Server was failed to start.
Then i was open Enterprise Manager and i was see the message that say`s that SQL Server is not running or is not autenticating.

Now im seeying your words and i was go again to PC Manager and i was go to see Application logs and the error say`s:
SQL Dump exception handler process 1816 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process

And then:

SQL Server is aborting fatal exception process c0000005

Please can you help me?

[8/3/2001 4:39:10 PM - criener]
We can not help, however this sounds like a permission problem. Have you changed any permissions or updated anything since the last time SQL Server was running?

[8/3/2001 5:23:07 PM - futurahost]
No. I was created some domains, but only that...
The point is that SQL starts and then stops on autentication... Im simply unable to connect to solve the problem (that i think is with any customer doing something wrong dumping a table or database)

But im simply unable to open a connection with SQL Server due an autentication problem. And if i try to change Registration Properties and use SQL Server autentication (with sa user and the password that ECUI`s was assigned me) i cannot connect also...

[8/3/2001 5:32:50 PM - ldrayer]
Well we can not connect either, the sa account is the main account, you can not connect to a none running SQL Server. The server MUST be running to connect to it, including to change the registered properties. The SQL Server must be running.

Starting the server has nothing to do with accessing it via Enterprise Manager, you must get it started first.

[8/3/2001 6:03:10 PM - futurahost]
Well. I was find something.
The log say`s:
2001-08-03 23:48:56.74 server SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 1928 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.

Microsoft say`s:
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 1 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. For information about how to download and install the latest SQL Server Service Pack, see the following Microsoft Web site:

http://support.microsoft.com/highlights/sql.asp
For more information, contact your primary support provider.

Additional query words: sub-query err

Keywords : kbSQLServ700bug
Issue type : kbbug
Technology : kbSQLServSearch kbAudDeveloper kbSQLServ700

Also im seeing that there is a SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1 that im not sure is fixing this problem.

MUST I download an apply this patch or is already applied?

Im getting information, but you are very much expert than me and you know that. Please, can you work with me on this problem?

[8/3/2001 6:25:50 PM - dfrost]
Sir,

Obviously you know your on an unmanaged server which you took over prior to July 12th when SQL Server 2000 SP1 became available so we would not have installed the Service Pack.

[8/3/2001 8:47:41 PM - futurahost]
Hello.
Im unable to install the Service Pack due an Authentication error. I was try both, Windows authentication and User/Pass combination and in both cases i have the same error.

I was do all that i can, i know that this is an unmanaged server, but im unable to do anything in this situation. Im simply cannot fix this because i cannot start the SQL server and i cannot install the Service Pack because the bug (Reported by Microsoft) is putting me out on all try`s.

At this point i can think on reinstall SQL Server, but you know that im unable to do that.

Have any suggestion please?

Thanks
Pablo

[8/3/2001 10:03:04 PM - futurahost]
Well. I was find many suggested solutions for this case, but are always the same... Reinstall

Im not able to do that by myself, but this need to be done. I was not "play" with server configuration or something like that, this is a recognized Microsoft bug and i cannot left the server with the SQL Sever down

Please, i need help. And this is not another "my inexpertise" problem, this a Microsoft Bug

Thanks

[8/4/2001 2:03:09 AM - dfrost]
You can reinstall/repair SQL Server, the CD is copied on your C hard disk, the same as Windows 2000 is. Additionally I have no idea why you would be attempting to install a Service Pack onto a none working system. That’s is doing nothing but asking for problems.

Wow!

Just to make sure, you have not changed any Administrator or SA passwords lately? Have you given anyone access to their DB via Enterprise Manager?

ppovar

Hello.

No, i was not do that. We are talking about a recognized bug there...

We are talking about a recognized bug there... Well, yes and no. The error you are getting is not a bug by itself but you are getting this error message because something got corrupted (well, most of the time this is why you get this error).

So you have not changed the passwords in W2K or SQL. Have you given anyone access to their DB via Enterprise Manager? Do you have any backups of the databases?

ppovar

You are right.

No

. Have you given anyone access to their DB via Enterprise Manager?
No, only Hosting Controller has :((

Do you have any backups of the databases?
Yes (copied files)

You are really spending time on me, THANK YOU FOR ALL THIS

Hostingcontroller, Ah! That may have done something. Sorry for all the questions, but this helps narrow things down.

Have any of the databases be migrated/upsized from SQL 7?

Thanks,

Ok, that narrows things down. Can you post the whole sql dump file. Try to start it again and post the dump file.

And now ECUI's has left to give me support...

Is funny, they say that they cannot support thirdy party applicationas like Hosting Controller but im using that because they suggest that on theyr site.

Now im really disperate.:bawling:

Just an update. They are doing all that they can.

Im really soddisfied with ECUI's customer support, really, they dont answer "newbies" question but when the things became HOT they work really hard and good.

The point is that both (they and me) dont know waht is happen with SQL Server that now is impossible to get running (also after a completely uninstallation)

Im still a disperate :(

Hello Pablo,

I am glad they finally helped, too bad it too them so long. What error messages are you getting then you install? Did you delete all the program files/directories/databases before you install?

Is ECUI still helping you?

ppovar
08-04-2001, 10:30 PM
Hello.

Well. They are unable to help, but i understand that they dont know what happen before they are involved.

No error messages. The service simply dont start. Im seeing sqlstp.log and all seems be right, also the end of the install file log is:

Starting Service ...

SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS

-m -Q -T4022 -T3659

And nothing more... No other logs, no other messages, nothing :bawling:

RackMy.com

Is ECUI still working on it, or have they left you to do it yourself?

Check the \<sql>\LOG directory for SQLxxxx.DMP files that may have been created. Post the results of the dump.

Thanks,

Hello!
Yes, they are helping. But anyway the problem is unsolved. SQL Server is practically destroyed.

Conclusion:

However im taking the head of the bull and im going to change my server administration politic from the root. I will not use anymore Hosting Controller.
What do Hosting Controller with permission settings?
What do Hosting Controller con system dll's?
What's happen when a customer "see" the entirely system settings?
Why a reseller can view ALL server IP's and "play" there?
No no... Many unsolved things

I will move all that domains to a new server and i will take a support man to activate services (time).

I will sleep in peace and one more person will have work ah?

Thanks for all ans scuse the time that i was take from you.

And... No, no error logs, SQL is only putting DATA folder there. When i finish to move domains i will work around Windows Registry and see if i can install SQL again there, but only to know what's happen.

Thanks again

Only a little comment.

ECUI's was named many times here. Im a very sodisfied ECUI's customer. They have an amazing Microsoft knowledge, they have a really very fast support team, they was help always (some times i was feel that im not welcome there, but im not sure why they dont like newbies) but anyway they always help.

The only thing that i dont like there is that many times they answer "you are on an unmanaged server and you must solve that by yourself" They are right, but if you take a little more care of that your customer will learn and when the customer grow's you too, and if i have x domains that and i step by step im learning in the future i will need less customer support and i will pay for more servers.

Scuse my english, is very poor, but i think that you understand what i mind.

Hello again. Im back and very sad.

The problem was/is The Virtual.Root Troyan. They are reinstalate the server and leave the troyan there, in that way i was setup again all the machine with sites and accounts and twelve hours later i was with the server down again.

Now im not sure that i will continue offering Microsoft hosting. I have 5 Linux servers, 1500 domains and i was want to start offering Windows services, but for each Linux customer question i receive hundred Windows customer questions, is not a big deal...

Anyway, im searching for a good Windows provider, know you some one?

Thanks for all.
