View Full Version : Is a Rack Shack Dedicated Good Enough?
| Is my own RS dedicated server good enough to offer web hosting and reseller accounts at a fair price? I know many will say find a reseller account and start there and such but I have the technical skills to manage such a server and the cash to get it going. |
Mekhu 08-05-2003, 06:23 PM We're using RS and have been extremely pleased. I'm interested to hear some comments. |
Sheps 08-05-2003, 08:14 PM | Same here. RS has unbelievable network uptime, especially with the two seperate fires. They are a good solid company(proof found in the forums) |
thedavid 08-05-2003, 08:21 PM Yes, RS is good enough for shared hosting - there's no SLA on the network though, so in the unlikely even that their network does go down (hasn't since we've gotten our server, not even a hiccup here and there) then you will not be credited for the downtime.
Other than that, the reason why we're not hosting actual client sites there is because there's not even the option to pay for remote hands - all they'll do is a reload of the OS. I never use remote hands, really, but it's nice to know it's there in case it's needed sometime in the future, even if we have to pay. I think RS may be considering changing that in the future and branching out to some fee-based remote hands (read it somewhere) - but it's unclear what it will entail.

Dan L 08-05-2003, 08:41 PM A lot of people use RS, though I've heard an equal share of good and bad. Any real significant reason for the bad? |

None here, but I guess a lot of people have been complaining recently about their abuse team. Check these posts out at http://forums.rackshack.net. I've had no issues with them - service has been stellar in our experience.

neonlexx 08-06-2003, 05:15 AM I personally wouldn't use them for the following reasons.
1. Everyone uses them, customers sometimes do traces and just skip the RS hosts.
2. No remote hands.
3. No SLA. (This is a big one for me, since I provide business hosting. Someone is relying on my hosting to put food on their table. I am not going to be cheap)
4. No real support. (I rarely use support, but its nice to know that its there) |
WoodWorker 08-06-2003, 05:36 AM We got our first RS server in May and we are very impressed with them. The network is stable, fast and we've found the support great. 4 times out of 5 they reply to our tickets within an hour and for a big company like RS thats good  |
