View Full Version : help! buying new computer today
moshes 08-04-2003, 05:54 PM 2.4 MHZ Pentium
Main Board P.4 533 MHZ
17 LCD Mag or Benq
256 DDR 33mhz (2)
Geforce 4mx 440 68mg or Radion Vivo 128
128 Sound card
This is the aprox system I am looking at. I am buying this oversee's so I can't run to bustbuy for this one.
1.My needs.
2. Fast
3. no hang ups & slow time when dealing with large video files
I need video in for a analog video camera, what card can handle this that is priced well?
4. someone told me that somehow DDR ram is double?
5. I know the 2.4 means good speed but I see something about 500/600/800 something to do with speed as well, can you explain this
6. sound card, I like to do some recording with my PRO mic and keyboard for fun, would a creative lab 5.1 basic model be good enough or is there a great card that isn't so outragous price better for this?
7. should I buy amd or celron or stick with Intel on this one
8. Is there a difference between 2.4 and 2.66 as both I can get here but 3.2's are priced to high.
ilyash 08-04-2003, 06:06 PM get an AMD instead.. cheaper + powerful[er] lol
KIA-Joe 08-04-2003, 06:21 PM I would upgrade to at least 512MB RAM
Make sure that the video card is NOT onboard. And if it is than make sure that there is an available AGP slot to add a new video card in the future.

2.4 MHZ Pentium.... *snip*
Seriously, I hope you're kidding... 2.4MHz???. :D
Avoid celeron, or there goes your speed requirement.
As far as stability, and if you want windows, get either Win2k pro or XP pro.
Just my recommendations...
Don't get Celeron or Duron, AMD Athlon is the way to go.
DDR= Double Data Rate
Sound? They all sound the same to me :D
123 Logo Design 08-05-2003, 01:55 AM I think he means GigaHz ?
hostbox 08-05-2003, 03:08 AM Get an AMD Athlon XP+2400 from Tigerdirect.com:)
I don't recommend AMD bcoz though the CPU is powerful as pentium but other components like Mother board for AMD are not very powerful.
Also some games & 3D programs exclusively require Pentium Processors.
At last u will good resale value of Pentium Machine rather AMD

No software will "only" work on a Pentium. They just recommend Intel Processors. Athlons are just as good as P4 processors if not better.
moshes 08-05-2003, 08:10 AM I am going with the pentium I decided. I still need to know what to do about graphic cards, (I want to take video in from a analog video camera), Sound card for semi-pro recording, should I still with my Nec 17 or get LCD but that puts me out a chunk of cash
Stephen 08-05-2003, 11:46 AM unless your doing extensive gaming I recommend this http://emicrox.com/eShop/product.aspx?pid=760315

u didn't tell how much money do u expect that kind of computer ?so we can give u idea
Jeffbg123 08-05-2003, 02:05 PM Dell has some good deals that can be found at hot-deals.org. For $457 you can get a nice P4 system with a Geforce card.
moshes 08-05-2003, 05:23 PM what is the difference between a vivo card and tv card for me to use my analog camcorder?
Well the price difference for me between the 2.4 and 3.0 is aprox. $230
is it smarter to put in 1gig of ram on a 2.4 then get a 3.0
ubergeek22 08-05-2003, 05:25 PM Stay away from GF4 MX's - a 4200 isn't much more and is a far better card. I'm not familar with ATI VIVO cards but they have a good rep.
Get the Ram over the processor increase, it will make much more of a difference.
