Can any one help? I need a virtual host that allows adult material and image archives. My site is adult humor and the adult is pushing the envelope. I had a great service Inetghost that really allowed unlimited bandwidth ( I paid for 10 got 15Gb), and never throttled it......alas they went belly-up.
So I moved. The new host is killing me.... my page views are less than a third of what they were and visiter volume is 50%. I am paying for 20 gigs.
What I'd like is 20Gig bandwidth unthrottled, 200 megs of space and server stats that work. What I use is 125 megs and about 12 gig. But the site is catching on and if, don't worry kikko. net I won't mention it's you, it wasn't for the present host it would climb. But even my average views per visiter are half thanks to timeouts and slow, slow connections. Negative mail about the site speed is way up.
I'd like to keep the price down.. I'm hoping about 16- 18 a month but I'm realistic. Since this is a hobby, and I am not making a dime off it, my budget is limited. I am also worried about over bandwidth charges. $2 sounds like a honest price from what I've been reading here. You can keep all the other extras. I use plain ol html. Thanks for reading and hopefully helping. www.trizzle.net:bawling: :bawling: :bawling:

You could start with registering the site with ICRA.org which is the Internet content rating association, Net-Nanny, Cyber-Sitter and the like...

And then set up an AVS System (Adult Verification), there are lots of em. Adult Check and Cyber age are the largest, other ones are sex-key ect.., At least that should keep the majority out... They are all free to set up, and you get a commision for signups.

adultcheck.com
cyberage.com

Wired...I am not saying this cavalierly...the ICRA idea is good but metatags accomplish this. The idea of someone collecting $80 a year for adult verification when in reality there is no REAL AGE VERIFICATION to be able to go on my site..............?:puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

Well,

There is age verification as long as you have the AVS as the only doorway in to your site. You just need to specify the the particular avs members doorway as the only allowable IP address in your .htaccess file in the site directory.

Sex-Key is free to members, so they dont get charged a thing, so is Free Net Pass and a few others, I know Adult check and Cyber Age are like $12 bucks a year with a few xtra bonuses to members who sign up.

Granted there is no complete fool proof way to keep all of them out (the determined will find a way), unless you build a full Membership Site useing password sentry and a few other safegaurds.
Or you simply employ all of the above even the Meta tags to do your best in keeping them out (parents need to learn and accept some responsibility in protecting there children also). AVS is a good way which works for its intended purpose, I have used Cyber Age & Sex-Key on some of the sites I have worked on. Cyber Age also will give you bannerless hosting if your site is protected by there system, some free content ect..,

So it does work, if you do some of the above steps...

A good, reliable host that allows adult content is Netherweb (http://www.netherweb.com).

Thanks Mike.....That's getting closer.....although more $ than I hoped for. Have you dealt with them or has anyone. This weekend has proved so frustrating with my blazing 190 Bps FTP speeds that I am ready to pay more. Shoulda taken up woodworking as a hobby.
I was hoping that posting here would have resulted in more options. ;) :stickout :bawling:

Yes, I still own two accounts with Netherweb, and have been extremely pleased with their service and support. They developed their own control panel (as opposed to CPanel or Plesk).

It is true that Netherweb permits adult web sites and charges very fair rates. I had an account with Netherweb and was not happy with my service. They had more than their share of downtime, my server was loaded more heavily than other hosts that I have used, and pages seemed to load especially slowly. I purchased a year of service, but pointed my traffic elsewhere after only a few months into my contract.

Netherweb has moved their servers to the VA facility at Above.net. I agree, there was some downtime before, but this problem has faded with the new colocation.

ecommercediscovery is good for adult stuff. Donovan at www.servus.ws also allows adult stuff (is he still open?) I too have been looking for a paid host that accepts adult sites. go to www.hostsearch.com and enter your criteria, including adult. that will turn up some hosts.

here are some hosts that i am not sure about:

www.phenominet.com (dont state that adult isnt allowed, but hasnt gotten back to me on it.)

www.********-isp.com (allows adult, but spams web boards when you mention their name. price is on par with what you want)

hope i helped. the next step is finding an advertiser that will allow your content.

Woodshedd.....wow how did you find that gem...phenominet...do you think they can deliver? That's alot for $10. But thier toss states "Unauthorized distribution or copying copyrighted material, violation of US export restrictions, harassment, fraud, trafficking in obscene material, drug dealing, and/or other illegal activities are grounds for immediate termination of services and or prosecution. PhenomINET reserves the right at all times to report such illegal activities to any and all regulatory, administrative and/or governmental authorities for appropriate prosecution of violators." just like everyone elses. I've been through the Host searches, thanks. I posted here hoping for a referal from someone with a relation with a provider that hasn't let them down.
I e-mailed phenominet too... that's just too good to pass up. I'm finding and someone correct me if I'm wrong...That if sales doesn't respond there is no way support will.
Another thought if *******-isp is spamming to get customers does that mean they are hungry for business and maybe worth looking into.

<<MOD NOTE:>>
We ask that you not reward companies who come here and do this, just as you wouldn't order from an email that spamms your inbox.
<</MOD NOTE>>

Wired, still going through that search.....thanks that was one I didn't find.;)

If it helps,

I was with Vector Force for awhile, support was good, I experienced no downtime, everyone I know who has been with them has been happy.... I dont have anymore adult sites and that was my reason for leaving, otherwise I would would have stayed.

I found phenominet totally by chance. The only reason i am not using them now is because they never returned my emails. You might try phoning them. their only downside is they only let you use their supplied cgi scripts. You could probably submit your own for review. about that bad word host, %$&*(!@-isp, talk to their live help guy and see what he says.
