I tried phpBB, and it seems okay... the only thing I don't like about it is the most evilness of having to log in everytime I open it using a new browser... I even tried looking for hacks to 'fix' it for a week and looked in the general forum over there... it seems that there's no fix... (and I can't wait for phpBB 2.0 official release to come out... mostly since there's no date of release..)

(*Really means author is too lazy to log in all the time.)

I'm wondering what's a great forum to use, I picked phpBB first off, just because of it's reviews, and I do like it, except for that one little thing, and it kinda gets very annoying after a while... ;_; *sniffle*

Is there any others that you would recommend?
(I might go with vBulletin, although that is soooo expensive... I could buy a couple of college books with that... or at least 1 and a half... ^^;;)

You might check out:
http://www.xmbforum.com/

Looks good, but if its a busy forum you might wait till the next version to be released, there is a major security hole in the use of BB code with it...

Mmm....

TheComputerGuy- I thought about trying to use Ikonboard, but then my webhost doesn't like flat boards (I think that's what it's called?) Although I hear that they're coming out with a Ikonboard 3 that uses mysql and php (but again I don't know when they'll be coming out with that.. ;_;)

The Prohacker- Mmm.. if XBM has a bug in it... I wouldn't like someone to go and ruin it for me... ^^;; That wouldn't be good... I hear a lot of hackers like to find new forums and ruin them... ^^

Well, , today went and looked into the code and changed some things so that they session wouldn't end when they closed the browser... I hope that works... ^_^ That was the only thing annoying me... although I still would like to hear about other message boards... I might even give XBM a try when they come out with a final release and IkonBoard 3 when it comes out... I just like to play with new stuff... ^^;;;;;;;;

XMB is in final release, the bug allows people to post javascript using bb code. I have already emailed the authors, and have been told a fix is in the works...

I also think XMB is good, I tried phpBB but I found it a pain in the ass to mod the layout.

I am in the process of replacing YABB with XMB and although it is a little limited at the mo I suspect it will get a lot better having spoken to a couple of the guys involved with it breifly. Got a good impression of dedication from them.

Ikonboard has plans for an MySQL version sometime..

Even though Ikonboard uses a FLAT DB, it is still VERY fast and is not much of a resource hog.

Check out their homepage and go to the forums to see for yourself :) . They have almost 10,000 members on there.

You can also check out the link below in my sig for a forum running Ikonboard 3.

I just installed XMB the other day; and I must admit. . . .I'm impressed :rolleyes:

The XMB developers are working on 1.1 which as I'm told should be out in a few weeks. They say they are working on all the bug and security holes that everyone has reported...

For UBB, its to little, way way too late...
Over the past several months there has been little progress in the features of it. But now out of no where Ted comes out, and says the next large release will have things like Who's Online, and other popular hacks. Why this sudden change, didn't they always say they enjoyed being simple? Hmmm maybe they are finally figuring out that they are loosing a foot hold on the market, and are tring to catch up. Guess what, its really to late..

What is wrong with this software that you are using right now to display your messages :smokin:

Cyberpunk- I agree that it is really hard to change the look of it... maybe one of these days I'll buy a php book and figure out how all this stuff works... ^^;;; The guys at XMB do look like they're really dedicated with their stuff... when they come out with the final release, I would like to try it out! ^_^

Aragon- I hope Ikonboard comes out with a MySQL version soooon.. I think that would be pretty neat.. ^_^ I'm afraid to use Flat DB's though since Aletia says that it isn't recommended and I don't really want to go against their recommendations since they're really cool... ^_^

Certify- I'm... um... like in college, and I'm kinda broke from all the books that I have to buy... >_< Grrr... so I can't really afford their $250+ program.... ^^;;;;;

Dollac- There's nothing wrong with the software I'm using to display my messages (except for some bugs that I fixed while browsing their message board) It's just that I don't really like to constantly log in all the time... it gets kinda annoying visiting several times a day... ^^;;;;;;; *Ewww... smoking... ^^;;;;

Ikonboard is coming out with a mySQL version for the new iB3 version. mySQL will probally be support in beta 5 or soon after.

At this time there is no planned PHP version of ikonboard. It will use perl with support for mod_perl and multiple database types (mySQL, DBM, CSV, and more eventually).

Personally, i swear by UBB.
The newest version is great.

I've heard that Forummax has good forums too, php and mysql.
(forumax.net , or forummax.net, i forget)

Log in all the time, use the auto log feature that way you are always ready to go that is what I do for this vb forum and several other one that I use on a regular basis. :smokin::smokin::smokin: <- Chain Smoker.

Woody- Oh... ^^ Well, I don't think I can use it if it's a flatboard then... ^^;;;; Darn... and I hear it's really, really good too... ^^

RunOfTheMill- I don't have $250 to spend on UBB though... ^^ I wish I had that kind of money to spend... ^^

Dollac- Unfortunately, phpBB doesn't have that kind of feature... I searched the phpBB board and the phpBB hack board, but I guess no one gotten something like that... ;_; *sniff*
