XTHosting 08-03-2003, 08:39 PM Greetings, What do you guys thinks about the ipv6. the goods, the bad, etc Regards, James B. :D allan 08-03-2003, 10:39 PM We don't have much of a choice, eventually we will all be using it. Phrozen 08-03-2003, 10:54 PM 3ffe:ffff:0100:f101:0210:a4ff:fee3:9566 The good? Well, there will be more IPs for everyone, and that is the sole purpose. The bad? Look at my sample IP above; would you want an IP like that? :P Jasber 08-03-2003, 10:56 PM I have enough trouble memorizing ipv4 ip's..but ipv6! Cirtex 08-03-2003, 11:05 PM :bawling:  :bawling: 1 day....... soon davidb 08-04-2003, 12:28 AM yea, its hard to impliment(IMHO, though I may not be experienced to understand it enough). Just think about this, a lot of the software you use will have to change. Yet it will alow many more ip addresses and that will benifit everyone. Alex042 08-04-2003, 08:24 AM From what I read a while back, I believe they were talking about reserving the lower set of numbers for the old ipv4 numbers, i.e. 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0001 - 0000:0000:0000:000:000:0009:9999:9999, so hopefully this will allow ipv4 and ipv6 to coexist. Reptilian Feline 08-04-2003, 08:30 AM I've been writing about it, and reading up on it... It will work side by side with IPv4 until all has been moved over. Some classes will be internal only, others will be extarnal. A lot of the move from being a computer on a local network, ot going on-line will be automatic. Everything that has access to a network will have its own number. It will work on old hardware. If you want me to, I can translate a portion of the book for you, but it will be a long post. 123 Logo Design 08-04-2003, 10:05 AM Not easy to remember :) Only advantage seems to be more ip's I hope there won't be too much problems. allan 08-04-2003, 10:28 AM Originally posted by Skize Not easy to remember :) Only advantage seems to be more ip's And security enhancements. MarcD 08-04-2003, 04:40 PM Anyone seen any dates or an estimated time table Detroit Red 08-04-2003, 06:21 PM So when do you guys think this will start being implemented? allan 08-04-2003, 07:27 PM Originally posted by Detroit Red So when do you guys think this will start being implemented? Several large ISPs are already IPv6-capable (Sprint and UU/World/MCI come to mind), but it will be 5 years or more before it is commonplace. Euh... Does this mean they are going to REMOVE ipv4 ?        Regards, James B. allan 08-04-2003, 09:27 PM Originally posted by XTHosting Euh... XTHosting 08-04-2003, 09:38 PM DOH :/ My nice ip will be gone and i'll have something that big :( :/ Reptilian Feline 08-05-2003, 02:44 AM OK... when I wrote the book I used www.webopedia.com for a lot of my research, when I wanted to find a place to start looking for information. This is a link to a paper on IPv6. http://playground.sun.com/pub/ipng/html/INET-IPng-Paper.html I think it's easier for you to read it, than it is for me to translate it in a hurry from my book. traixanha 08-05-2003, 03:01 AM Originally posted by XTHosting Euh...
