View Full Version : host2own.com very leary
ljprevo 08-03-2001, 02:15 PM I was ready to sign up with a dedicated Raq4 with host2own.com and suddenly stopped, why?
I filled out the user form got the credit card page and it said, amount $450. This was suppost to be the Raq4 for $250 per month and no set up fee. I called them, directed me to a sales person who put me on hold, she came back and said that they did not update the web site yet, but the price would be $300 a month, that there was a $50 per month reseller fee. I was like wait a minute, what scam is going on here.
I would be very leary about this company, why would they enforce prices before they change their web site.
I could not get a straight answer on this $50 per month reseller fee, they said it included a control panel for you to manage your customers. I was like, thanks, but no thanks.
I noticed the same thing too. And what's worse, the prices are not the same on all the pages. On one page, they charge $300, the other page they say $250, and then on the main page they say $150. I would suggest not using their service. Rackshack.net would be better.

The control panel is built into a RaQ (as part of the appliance). I don't know anything about host2own.com, but you can't get a RaQ w/o the control panel.

I guess it is for access to their IBIZ section. I don't need that. My hosting service is based on this, offering only what you need, why pay $50 a month for a online control panel to keep track of your customers, when I do it offline with my own software that I bought and paid for.
I liked the idea of being able to own your Raq after 2 years. I have been with my current provider almost that long, for a little less than $250 a month. I would almost own 2 servers by now.
To bad, but I got a Raq with Rackshack.net today.
They lost my business. $250 a month was high, but it would have been a investment after 2 years.
Thanks for clearing a lot of that up. I suggest that you point out on your site that you have to pay for that extra option so that there is no more confusion. For someone like myself, I'll stick to other cheaper companies since I have no need for your services. I'm not saying that they are not good, it's just that I personally don't have a need for a reseller or ibiz option at the moment and thus do not want to pay for something I don't need.

It looks like while I was typing my post, the original post I was quoting was deleted... not really sure why (other than the fact that the person who posted it used a link in their signature... but couldn't the moderators have just taken that one part out?). So I'm removing my original post as it will now be out of context.

I have had a wonderful experience with Host2Own. I have been with them for almost a year now and can't find anything truly bad to say about them. Thus far, I am happy.
They have a professional and prompt Customer Service staff and everyone has treated me very well.
The Reseller Application/iBizConsole is actually a very useful tool for my business. They have recently been changing it around, for the better (However, there are times I would like some advanced notice on the changes. But this is only a minor detail in the large picture). They have automated a few more features, cleaned it up and made it very user-friendly. It works well with the Cobalt control panel and I find it worth every penny of the $50 a month.
Since I have been with them, their prices have not changed much. And considering that you get unlimited tech support with them, the pricing is reasonable. I have been just 'shopping around' lately, just for my own personal inquiries, and haven't found anywhere that you can lease to own in 24 months, or at all, and still get unlimited support, all for a decent price.
I just wanted to back them up on the initial post as they have done a wonderful job so far for me and my growing business.
Thanks!

Shame you have already hooked up with someone. eFreeservers offer much the same thing, with bucketloads of bandwidth and only 20 months to own. You would've been looking at $285 per month/20 months/200GB bandwidth per month.
Next time. :-)

diyoha 08-05-2001, 10:13 AM actually it is not too late ... rackshack.net is on a month to month basis.
but he would lose his setup fee!

Host2Own is month to month. EFS has a 20 month contract.
Also, When H2O means 24/7, all the support you need, they mean it. Back when RackShack and Terabyte didn't even know what a RAQ was, H2O (Carinet) was starting the "Become your own ISP" on the first RAQ. June/99. My point...They know Cobalt.

Um... some of that is not true. See, the site Rackshack.net has only been up for a few months, but the parent company EV1 has been offering Cobalt RaQs ever since they started offering dialup internet accounts 3 and a half years ago. I know this for a fact because a friend of mine has had his RaQ with EV1/Rackshack for that amount of time. As for Terabyte, what planet did you get that from. Terabyte has been offering dedicated solutions since 1998. It is in fact H2O that's the new company.
