I was looking for someone who could host my site but I didn't have much money to invest. I've been with free services before but they don't allow domains, are slow and have publicity.
First of all I can across hostmysite whose offer seemed quite good ($8 per month + $16 set up fee and good service), but then I came across a non profit orginisation (I've checked it out, there French but their servers are in London, It's what they call a "loi 1901" which means that they can't earn any money).
For this reason, they can offer very good prices and good support (they are all volenteers). My site isn't finished so I'm waiting a bit before buying a domain name so they have provided me with a subdomain in the mean time ( www.mattsworld.haisoft.net ). Their prices are $15 for 40Mb, 1000mb transfer, unlimited users and E.mails. I was also impressed by the fact that they answered my E.mail within 1 hour most of the time (never more than 6hours) and that they are very helpfull.
If you are interested they offer domains for just $15 per year which is also good as far as I can see

Sorry, but they have helped me by offering a very good service, and I also like helping others find a good service, I understand that you don't like publicity but what is this forum for if you can't let people know what the best offers are.

I am sure this is wrong... but 30$ for 1gb/year is a lot.

non-profit does not mean they can not earn any money - it does place some stipulations to my understanding, but salaries can be monstrous as well...the president/owner could pay himself a huge salary and still be non-profit (I think)
