Would anyone reccomend a PHP Book for a beginner to programing? I don't so much want to know about MySQL but I want to learn how I could use PHP with my web site to make it better. This is going to be a birthday present for me so I also want the book to be under $30. Have any ideas? Thanks!

You don't really need a book.. Just read through the php manual.. =)

I have 5 PHP books. They all suck.. Just use the online manual and faq's.

Its one of the best ive used. Ive also heard that the PHP Bible is an excellent book.

My first PHP book was PHP Essentials, by Julie Meloni, and I found it incredibly helpful. Once your skills have advanced some, I highly recommend Professional PHP, published by Wrox (I believe there's a new edition out next month).

Professional PHP is great even new comers who are just trying to learn PHP from start.

PHP for Fast & Easy Web Development is very good to get you started, but u will need another book ontop of it.
Core PHP Programming 2nd Edition is basically the PHP manual in a book.

I think I might get Php Fast & Easy Web Development (Fast & Easy Web Development). I sounds like from the reviews and stuff something that I might like better than the other books. I don't really want to get too indepht but all I want to do is see how I can make my web site better using PHP and this seems like my books. :) Did I forget to mention that it is only $17.49, so I can get another gift too :D

O boy. Now which book to get. I am trying to deciede between Php Fast & Easy Web Development and Essential PHP for Web Professionals but Php Fast & Easy Web Development has more pages and a CD-Rom so I am leaning toward it. Any suggestions between the 2?
