View Full Version : Registering nameservers at bulkregister

Hi everyone,

I've recently ordered a dedicated server from Burst.net and I'm having a problem registering my nameservers at Bulkregister.com (which is where I registered the domain name I want to use for my nameservers).

I think I'm following the instructions at Bulkregister and keep ending up with an error message.

I wrote to support at bulkregister and they wrote out directions, which I followed and I still end up with the same error message.

So, I'm going around in circles, I can't get through to bulkregister on the phone.

Does anyone here have experience with registering nameservers at bulkregister who could perhaps steer me in the right direction?

Thanks so much,
Karen R.

Karen,

What is the error message? Internic only allows one nameserver per ip address. So if the ip address(es) you are using as the nameservers are already assigned to another set of nameservers, Internic will reply with an error.

To see if your ips are being used by another nameserver, do a whois @ nsi for the ip address of the nameserver you are attempting to register.

Hi Matt,

I went to NSI and looked up "host 66.96.228.15" and "host 66.96.228.16" and both times it says "no match for host ..."

Then, at Bulkregister.com I went through the process "Create more nameservers for this domain" for my key2servers.com name that is registered with bulkregister.

I type in the nameservers info:
NS1.KEY2SERVERS.COM 66.96.228.15
NS2.KEY2SERVERS.COM 66.96.228.16

It gives me a page that shows each nameserver name with an arrow pointing to its IP address. I push the "Apply" button and this is the error message I get on the next page:

Create name server: NS1
ERROR: adding name server to NSI databaseError: Create Name Server NS1 failed!

Create name server: NS2

Create name server NS2 successfully!

I just noticed that this time it says the NS2 nameserver was created successfully, previously the Create Name Server failed message was coming up for both NS1 and NS2.

Hmmm....do you have any idea what's wrong? Should I just keep trying over and over again with the NS1 nameserver, maybe I'll eventually get a "success"?

Thanks for your help,
Karen R.

Hi,

Just thought I'd give an update on the situation.

Turns out another customer decided to make up an IP address for one of his name servers and it happened to be my main IP address. So they had to get him to change the IP address in his nameserver registration at Bulkregister.

Then, I went and registered my NS1 and it worked.

So, we're almost there. (The server doesn't seem to be working at all right now. The tech people are working on it.)

Yipes, I didn't expect this to be this exciting right at the beginning.

I just wanted a nice cozy spot to host my clients' sites, where I have more control over things than at the shared hosting I've used so far.
