Morning all,

We just had an order come through that was fraudulent. Not particularly odd granted, but we're a UK host and don't get many orders from Richmond, US with a Lebanese IP address ;)

In the interests of data protection I won't give away personal details:

Domain: WWW.THEBETTER.NET
Zip Code: 23227
IP Address: 194.126.31.10

I was really delighted with WorldPay - they picked it up. Woohoo :stickout:

Whats actually wrong here?

Well,

Despite the fact that the customers address is in Richmond yet their IP address resolves to a Lebanese ISP and that they are using a red hot credit card might constitute something wrong.

It does in my eyes at least.

O ok,

I understand now, 9.30 am im still a sleep. Good to know that WorldPay is cracking down fraud.

:)

I don't wake up for at least another 3 hours ;).

WorldPay are good at this kind of stuff actually - before we went with them there were lots of eyebrows raised over their fraud protection but they seem to be highly efficient now.

Glad it got caught. Im thinking of blocking IP's from several countries from accessing our order form.

We get more fraud than genuine business from certain countries so its just not worth offering services to the country as a whole.

Especially vietnam.

They sound very good.

I am still a paypal user and there protection over fraud in my views is not very good. I might look to change and start using worldpay soon.

Thanks for the review.

And that's why we manually check each order, not had a fraudulant order get through in well over 2 years now. We prefer to manually screen them and check rather than let our merchant account do the screening - as not always will the IP/country mismatch be a fraudulant order, believe it or not we had an order from a UK card holder, with a South African IP address - turned the person was ordering their hosting whilst on holiday!

Good idea. I've banned about 5 Asian countries so far.
