View Full Version : Do I need this?
SurgeHosting 07-31-2003, 12:46 AM I have just signed up with http://www.resellerspanel.com/index.html and they are asking me to fill out a W-9 form.
Has anyone ever had to fill one out or is it required?
Please let me know..
Thank you
Eric
kymber 07-31-2003, 01:12 AM I've NEVER been asked to do this.
But, by looking at this site and the way his system is setup, you are working as an independent contractor for the owner of this company. He pays you for the business you generate. As a result, and according to US federal tax rules, if he pays any independent contractor more than I believe $600 per year, then this company is required by tax law to have you fill out the W-9 and he is also required to report your earnings to uncle sam at the end of the year.
So I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. Just fill it out, but be sure to keep up with all your earnings and expenses and claim them your taxes or the IRS will get you. Of course, you should already be doing this anyway.
I have a degree in business, and I have worked as an independent contractor in the past, so I'm somewhat familiar with this.
One last note, this is the only company I've ever seen to do things this way. It's certainly not bad--just different. But you should ask them more questions about this, and they really should have told you this before you signed up with them.
SurgeHosting 07-31-2003, 01:23 AM Ok thank you very much.
I have heard about the $600 per year.
Thanks,
If anyone has had this before let me know.

kymber 07-31-2003, 01:34 AM You're very welcome.
I'm sure it will be just fine, and in fact, It's pretty cool how this company has their system setup. Besides, you absolutely cannot beat a FREE reseller's account, especially one where absolutely everything is automated for you. I know of no other company that does this! Pretty neat!
One more suggestion . . . if you haven't already, you really should find out everything about the server that you're customer's account will be on (% of uptime and in what NOC center it's located in as well as the reputation of the NOC center that the server is located in). Also, go to any domain registration company's website and do a Whois Search on their domain name to find out how long their company has been in business. You may have already done this, but if not I highly advise you to.
Good Luck!
SurgeHosting 07-31-2003, 01:36 AM Yea I have already done a WHOIS on the domain.
kymber 07-31-2003, 01:44 AM Great, then just be sure to check out their server info.
Bling Bling 07-31-2003, 01:55 AM I tried them a few months back and sent in 3 questions about there service and never got a response.
kymber 07-31-2003, 02:01 AM That doesn't sound good. Customer service and server uptime should always be the first things you look for--price last. But then again it is free. The question is, is it worth it?
SurgeHosting 07-31-2003, 02:13 AM The same company I am with?
I have been dealing with esyd.com which I guess is a shortcut around them and my emails were answered right away!
I know this wasn't a thread asking for opinions on resellerpanel.com as you're already with them, but i thought i'd point out something i've heard a few people mention.
I know how they work, everything is setup and processed for you, all you basically have to do is advertise, but what most people don't realise is that, even though they put monthly prices on your site, your customers don't have the option to pay monthly, they can only pay for a whole year at a time.
So from speaking to other people that have been with them, they would be advertising their plans at $x.xx a month, but find nobody signing up, the reason is that when the customer goes through the signup process they then see that there's no monthly option you have to pay a whole year, but there's no mention of that on the site they provide you with.
Just making you aware of that.
SurgeHosting 07-31-2003, 04:54 PM Yes I have noticed that too and I wasn't happy with that.
But I still like how it's free and you get custom designed templates.
So I mean you can't beat that.l

Bling Bling 07-31-2003, 05:47 PM Its not a bad deal but there are only 2 plans to choose from.If im not mistaken the base price for the first one is $40.00 + whatever the reseller sets the price to.
Perhaps if they had smaller plans it would appeal to more people signing up.
