View Full Version : PixieHost Rocks

Just wanted to come back and update my experience with PixieHost. I initially posted about them about a month after signing on, and some people said to come back after I had more experience with them.... well, now I have almost 5 months with them, so here we go.

They rock. 'Nuff said.

Wait, want more details?

Ok, fine.

Downtime - few minutes here and there, maybe once every other week... nothing that wouldn't be expected anywhere else. Longest downtime in my run with them - 20 minutes. I emailed them with a trouble ticket about this, at 4am, and got feedback a half hour later. Speaking of which....

Response times / Quality - What can I say... Roy never sleeps. I've emailed him at midnight, 4am, 6am, noon, 3pm, 9pm (not all consecutively :) ), and always gotten a response soon after. I think the longest I have *ever* had to wait before getting a reply, was 1 1/2 hours.... and not once have I received a canned answer, I always get a straightforward, informative answer.

The Deal - Check out their deals on their site.... and they're great with custom plans, I currently have 700 megs space & 45 gigs bw for $23 / month. I'm sure other sites could offer a better deal, but for the quality I get here, I sure ain't leaving.

...and how cool is this. I email support, ask if I can get another account for my blog, so as not to rack up bandwidth on my main site. Roy proceeds to GIVE me this account, free, no charges... and he setup the subdomain stuff through my cpanel for me, very helpful. Later, I decided to buy a domain name for this site through PixieDomain, and had some problems with it (my fault, wasn't used to their Domain control panel). Emailed support, and instead of a "do this, do that" reply, he went ahead and did it for me. Wahlah, done, up and running.

When I initially signed up, I had some problems with PEAR. I emailed support about this, and instead of a "sorry, we don't support that feature" or "check your scripts".... I received an email from Roy saying something along the lines of "I installed a version of PEAR on your account, and configured it to work with your scripts." How many hosts would have done that? None that I've dealt with...

I would definitely recommend PH to ANYbody looking for great hosting.

Sites hosted with PH... check out their load speeds!

http://www.lifeofasimpleman.com (depending on when you view this, you may get script errors... working on it off and on... also, this is my free account Roy setup for me, so check out what kinda setup he *gave* to me... great server, for $0. Can't go wrong...)
http://www.horriblethings.com (I designed and set this up, but it's not my site... so don't blame me!)

I assume you meant Pair?
Anyway, that kind of service is a good reason for staying with the smaller hosts.
Good to see you are still happy MMK. Thanks for the update.

Don't I look foolish. I thought you meant you were with Pair hosting.

Anyway, good job PixieHost.

Nah, never heard of Pair hosting, heh... was with another host before finding Pixie, do a search on my name for a very long-winded post about them.

BTW: Didn't intend to come off as a smart-aleck on that PEAR thing...

Thought I'd resurrect this ancient post after seeing others come back to update their hosting experiences.

I've now been with PixieHost for a year, give or take a few weeks. I still stand by everything I said in my original post, as I have not been let down in the least since signing on.

The uptime is great. Sure, there's a few spots here and there where my site was down, but they only lasted a few minutes, and happened about every other week or so. Nothing major, and sadly, it was usually my fault for having such a popular site.

Speaking of which, my site has grown quite large since being with them, and for a while, it was hard on the shared server I was placed on. Instead of pulling a TOS quote and booting me like some hosts would have done, Roy worked with me on this and set me up on a VPS setup about a month ago, which has been working out fantastic. (A note, however... last time I talked to Roy, he wasn't offering VPS to the general public as he was setting some stuff up for it first.... this may have changed by now, I'm not sure).

Pricing on their services are very competitive. I'm sure they're not the cheapest host out there, but by no means are they expensive. Check out their site for their current pricing lists.

Support is still great. I can send a trouble ticket at any time, day or night, and have a reply within 10 minutes - 5 hours. I've never had to wait very long for any replies, certainly not for the 10+ hours I've seen other people here post about with other hosts.

http://www.pixiehost.com
http://www.musicmademe.com (my site hosted with them)
http://www.linefacevsnogame.com (a friends site who is hosted with them)
http://www.horriblethings.com (another friends site who is hosted with them)

I claim no responsibility for those last two sites. They're just friends of mine who I recommended PixieHost to. Also, if any of you night-owls happen to view my site in the next 2-3 hours, some links are broken and it's loading a bit slow. The site works fine for viewing purposes, but yep. I'm waiting around for one of my co-developers to come online and help fix the script, heh.

Bottom-line: Give this man your money. There's a plan on there for most types of sites, be it beginning or fully grown. He also offers custom plans if you email him and ask.

....and I know somebody is going to mention this, so let me clear it up beforehand.

Yes, I have a banner ad for another hosting company on my front page. Donations usually cover the site bills. Donations weren't covering the site bills this month. I put up a banner to cover the remaining costs. Fair enough, eh?

I hate bringing up old threads, but I am looking into Pixiehost and stumbled across this one.

When you say that you have some downtime, is it disruptive and noticable?

I've not been on their shared plan for a good number of months, as I've moved to their VPS service; however, when I was on the shared servers, downtime was mostly minimal. Site would be down for a minute or two, refresh 3-4 times and things would be back to normal.

Actually, I wouldn't totally blame the server for even that, as my site wasn't / isn't exactly kind with system resources... hence my move to the VPS, heh.

I'd say check it out for a few weeks at least, last I saw, they had a 30 day money back guarantee.
