I watch many people browse my web site and go to the order page, but when i go check my e-mail there is no order that is placed. Does anyone have any typical stats amount of people who order when they visit the order page?

Or does anyone have any tips for improving order pages so more people sign up?

Thanks

Around 20% of the people that visit our order page place a signup. Keep in mind that there are many people just surfing around ...

It may be because of this statement on your order form - "Refunds will be given at the discretion of the Company Management "

Some people won't like that at all ..

30 day unconditional refund seems to be standard practice.

I was advised to put that on by someone else using worldpay to keep them happy, ill remove it and see if that helps.

I've had quite a bit of experience with trying to get users to do stuff, and monitoring their progress - it's all in the healthcare arena (and if anyone else is in it too, you'll know trying to get a GP to click on something is less likely than an ant doing it).

From my experiences, split the form up into several pages, and make the first page the most interesting. They're obviously there to choose a hosting package, so make the first page the package options, with little descriptions or something. Then go on to the personal information, and finally billing. It also seems natural to the user that they choose the product, "walk" to the counter and then pay for it.

It's also nice in the headings to say "Choose your package [1/3]" or similar, to nudge the user and say "hey, only 2 more pages to go"... and make them small too. The less daunting the forms, the more likely they are to fill it in.

Hope this helps ;)

That's true. If worldpay finds out they will advise you or terminate your account. Be careful ;)

I have another question: How many people go to your order form and fill it out with: "dfdfsf etc..."?

I don't understand these people. I never even thought about doing that.

I would say 1 of 20. We also have some which signup order the package and never go to the secure payment page or sending the money. I think this is 1 of 10

do you have the "Refunds will be given at the discretion of the Company Management " thing on your site?

I have the following on it:
Refunds will be given at the discretion of the Company Management and does not apply to domain registration fees.

worldpay simply state that you must have a refund policy, and state that "Refunds will be given at the discretion of the Company Management " would be acceptable!

this does not mean that you are restricted to using this, it is simply a suggestion.. if you offer 30 day money back or similar then this can form part of your refund policy

If your order form consists of 2 steps (2 pages) and if the second one is a payment page, usually people will type some b.s. to see what merchant account you are using. It's usually the curious competitors who do it.

You should trace orders and actually write on the order-form that you log all IPs. It actually helped me to stop all those false orders - which are waist of everyone's time.

another way to stop getting false orders, is to the order sent to you by a callback script at the cc processor, this way you only get the order on sucessful payment completion

For us, about 98% of the people who click the submit button are paying :)

Yeah we get those every few days. Its probably some free-loader who hopes you have instant account activation. Assuming you do, they can use the account for whatever they want until you find out they didn't pay and turn it off.

That is why most hosts don't do instant accounts anymore - too much fraud in the customers who look for that sort of thing.

Take care,

Brian

For us it is about 60%. Almost all of the 40% places the order (Step 1 in our order process), but never makes the payment for the order. (Step 2)

We make it VERY clear that you must pay for the order or it won't get filled. Even so, we occasionallty get a complaint from some one who signed up but didn't pay asking where their account is...

...That's when we ask where our money is. :-)

Take care,

Brian

I guess it depends upon how many clicks before they get to the order form and how much essential and required information they need to fill in. If the form is fairly easy and is on the first or the second click then may be most people are just fooling around to see or even before deciding to buy.

Splashhost, worldpay will not terminate your account if you do not have that statement on your order page. What WorldPay requires is that your clients are "aware of your refund policies". I put all my payment/refund info into the TOS. Then I just use javascript to make sure the user has to tick a "I accept TOS" box before they can submit the order form.

Worldpay also told me to place that statement on my order page. When i pointed them to the TOS, they accepted and said that its fine.
