Any thoughts? spcover 08-11-2000, 09:07 PM Dana, I recommend "1st Page" by EvrSoft. It's strictly a text HTML editor, has won numerous awards, comes with many great javascripts and cgi-scripts to incorporate in your site. I use it as my default text editor when handcoding in Dreamweaver. And it's free. Very nice program. I just visited the EvrSoft website at http://www.evrsoft.com from where I downloaded it and it seems they're revising the site. But they have a link to reviews and a page at Download.com where you can get it the program. I think it's a program that's tough to beat, especially when it's free. I found this program awhile ago and I love it. The person that made it has split it up into 3 versions now and the big version will have color coding. You can get it at jgsoft.com It's basically notepad, but you can have multiple documents open at once, it has 16 last used documents listed, it doesn't cram everything together like notepad does when you save sometimes, and some other cool goodies. :) Simple, Small, Easy to use. Maybe not something with gigantic error catching, but it's free(you just need to send the creator a post card if you use the classic version) and worth checking out. ------------------ Justin K. I think it gnotepad+ but not sure since there are many text utils with Linux, runs in X by the way. Microsoft Visual Interdev is good for hard-coding HTML documents etc..., but not really good for Perl etc.. since when it comes to script colour-coding then it assumes ASP. CFoxHost 08-12-2000, 11:45 AM Have you tried Arachnophilia? I haven't used it much, but it seems to be very nice. And it has that price tag you like (free) :) http://arachnoid.com ------------------ Chuck Fox http://cfoxhost.com Laci 08-12-2000, 03:53 PM Originally posted by CFoxHost: Have you tried Arachnophilia? I never used pico but heard its limited though, only texts :) scwood 08-21-2000, 07:57 PM I use a program called EditPlus. I initially started using it to edit Miva Merchant files (because it had a module that color-coded those files). Anyway, it works great for HTML. It offers complete HTML control with all of the nice shortcuts. Also has global search & replace, and a preview mode. Simple, but very functional. It costs about $30 for the full license, you can download for a trial period at www.editplus.com (http://www.editplus.com) ------------------ Steve Wood Wood Interactive <A HREF="http://www.woodinteractive.com" TARGET=_blank>www.woodinteractive.com </A> Red Hot Hosting www.redhothosting.com (http://www.redhothosting.com) oodie 08-22-2000, 10:43 AM I use HTML-Kit (http://www.chami.com). It has nice syntax-coloring, lot of plug-ins, you can store your own code snippets, and it's free. If you need to search/replace many files, you might want to try BKReplaceEm (I forget the URL) which supports regular expression. bobcares 11-27-2001, 10:52 AM If your primary OS is Linux then Kdevelop is a cool choice. I use it a lot personally... :) On windoze I would suggest 1st page, coffecup or hotdog All are quite OK. Dreamweaver is also very good though it has a WYSIWYG interface too... Have a great day :) Regards Amar Lawrence 11-27-2001, 07:34 PM I use HomeSite 1.2, ye olde freebie. It's the one by Nick Bradbury, not Adobe. Is it just the later HomeSite versions that you don't like, or this one too? shlex 11-27-2001, 09:34 PM I like EditPlus. It is not only good for HTML bust also for PHP, JAVA or even just for plain text. universal2001 11-28-2001, 01:29 AM 1st Page 2000 is definately the BEST HTML editor.. Dreamweaver is up there too... akashik 11-28-2001, 01:56 AM again, this thread has been pulled up from September last year! Bob.. I admire your enthusiasm, but as a tech support guy you might look at a few small details like the fact a post is 15 months old before you try to solve it.
