Someone any experience on this? Chicken 08-01-2001, 10:12 AM I could swear I say instructions in the manual, but if not a search of the archives, KB, etc. should provide the info. hoster 08-01-2001, 02:36 PM Here are some instructions on how to do a restore. Make sure you follow them. Rich Detailed Instructions: Please follow these instructions to the letter and you will not have a problem. 1. Desktop PC (Pentium Class X86 with 32Mb RAM) with an ATAPI IDE CDROM drive (it must be able to boot from the CD, check your system BIOS boot order and make sure the CD-ROM is first). If the CD does not boot, you either do not have the BIOS setup correctly or your CD-ROM does not support CD-Booting. 2. Network Card – Supported by this release a. Intel EtherExpress Pro 10/100 100B b. 3COM 3c595-TX Rec C Fast EtherLink PCI c. 3COM 3c905-TX d. Netgear FA310TX e. I use a Dell 410 Workstation with an integrated NIC (network interface card). I have used a few other cards that are not listed above. If you don’t have one of these cards, try what you have and see if it works. If it does not work and you have no other means of getting a supported card, send me an email and I’ll see what I can do for you. 3. Ethernet crossover cable to connect the Cobalt Raq4 and the PC –OR- a 10/100 BaseT auto-sensing Ethernet HUB between the host PC and the Cobalt Raq4r. Connect crossover cable from desktop to Ethernet Port 1 of RaQ4r. Make sure you have the cable attached to the proper port on the back of the Cobalt RAQ4r (Ethernet port II does not support the OS restore feature). Same if using a HUB. 4. Boot up PC with the OS Restore CD. You will have to hit ENTER at the BOOT: Prompt 5. Accept License Agreement. You must type YES or you’ll have to reboot and start over. The Desktop PC is now a DHCP/OS Restore Server. If using a HUB, do not have other devices attached, the PC will send packets of data every 2 seconds and this will affect performance on the overall network. 6. Boot up RaQ4R via network. To do this: Hold down the S key as you power on the unit, this will get the display for OPTIONs.. Once you see the OPTIONS menu, hit the S key again until it says “BOOT FROM NET” Now hit the E key. 7. The Restore process should now start. The rest is AUTOMATIC.. Back away from the Cobalt… It’s knows what it’s doing. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Once the OS restore has started you MUST let it complete, there will be a couple of AUTOMATIC reboots and some TEST SCRIPTS that will run. DO NOT power the system off until the LCD says “PLEASE POWER DOWN”. Once you have powered the system back up, you will have a FACTORY FRESH Cobalt Raq4r (This means, it will be in the exact condition as if you had bought it new). Enter the IP address and all other data to complete the initial setup. Then you can go to the Web Page and finish configuring the system. The manual is available from the http://www.cobalt.com web site. If you don’t follow my instructions the Cobalt will be in a bad state, it may seem like it’s working but it won’t for long. Just start over if you made mistake. :) |
