I was wondering if anyone has been using this software
Called Dreamhost Professional at http://www.dreamcost.com/?page=shop/sol_software_dreamhost_pro and how they like it?
It's an automated billing solution that does all sorts of processors and today added Echo! Echo is the cheapest merchant account, no gateway fees and low monthly fees.

I was looking at that a while ago. I never got an answer one way or the other as to how secure keeping the information was going to be, so it's on hold for now.

It stores the credit card information in a mySQL database ....you need to know yourself how secure that is.

Yeah I know, but I really liked the set-up they have. Was hoping for some magic bullet that would make it all ok :D

Hi, I am also looking at the software products offered at dreamcost. ( http://dreamcost.com/ )
I like the dreamaccount and dreamhost software because they integrate with so many billing processors, but since others have raised security questions regarding MySQL, I wanted to ask a question few questions.
What should I look for in such a product? In other words, if the data is not secure in a MySQL database on my server, where is it secure? In order to access data in a MySQL server, you need to know where the database is, the name of the database, and the username/password set. If the data is encrypted, you would also need to be able to unencrypt the data once you hack into the database.
It seems to me that someone with hacking skills this advanced wouldn't be wasting their time on credit card numbers, but I could be wrong.
Also, if the public opinion is that is is not safe to store CC info on your own dedicated server, then where would it be safe? And how can you bill/rebill your customers without access to their billing info?
Also, Has anybody heard about DreamHost integrating with Plesk? The rep at dreamcost.com told me they are thinking of Integrating with the next release of Plesk Administrator. If they do this, I will buy the product in a hearbeat! No more data re-entry for server provisioning.
Thanks in advance!
Ant

Skipjack is a free gateway also and been around longer.. with EMS merchant account is only 1.65%, no gateway fee.. cheap monthly fee.
Sounds and looks good but what does the "cheap monthly fee" cost?

$15 bucks.
Skipjack is just the gateway that the merchants use... they don't offer merchant accounts themselves. If you're interested email me directly and I'll give you some names and numbers.. don't know if it's appropriate to advertise them here.
But SJ is awesome. They have sample scripts that are easy to customize that let you accept the live card processing... you can have a charge that gets submitted by your customer be a regular one time charge or automatically making it recurring (either monthly, quarter, semi annual, or annually).... of if you have the one time charge done and want it done auto recurring, you click on the transaction, then hit 'MAKE RECURRING'. It's awesome.

Also one more cool thing with the merchant I'm using.. they have instant account setup. You fill out the application online and you can process Visa and Mastercard charges 10 mins later. No money will be transferred to your bank until you sign your documents which they overnight to you in a few days and attach a voided check and other needed items. The whole process took about 10-12 days from the time I filled out the app... I process a few hundred in cards a few mins. later.. then 10-12 days I got the money. After that it's just standard time what any merchant takes to transfer the money 3 business days on average.
