Your domain has too many names.

Here's a guess at what happened.

Your Raq thinks your site's name is www.domain.com (i.e. "www" in the hostname field and "domain.com" in the domain name field).

When you set up the DNS for your domain, you made the hostname mail.domain.com and pointed it at the same place as www.domain.com, and made mail.domain.com the MX record. Seems to make sense -- looks better and sounds like it should work.

But the mail server on your Raq doesn't know that it has this additional name, it only knows the names "domain.com" and "www.domain.com" so when it receives this mail and looks up the MX, it thinks "Oh, this should be forwarded to some other machine called mail.domain.com" and when it tries that, it's trying to forward mail to itself.

If that's not it exactly it, it might be something like that.

In any case, the MX should point at the hostname indicated on the site's control panel (in this example, www.domain.com or domain.com). You can still have the mail.domain.com hostname pointing at the same place and use mail.domain.com as the name of your POP3 server in your e-mail software -- it just can't be the MX.

I was somehow able to overcome the problem..

Now the only problem I am facing is that.. whenecer I email myself at

anything@domain.com it says that user is not found or available but when I email user@domain.com it receives it..

Any idea whats going on ?

For anything@yourdomain.com to work, you must set up a catch all email alias.

Go to site admin
select email icon for that user you want all the email to go to.

enter @www.yourdomain.com in the alias field.

TEst it.

I agree with the above advice entirely, one more thing to add. I had similar problems when my domain name transfer had not quite completed, which completely cured themselves when the transfer had resolved 100%
