I just wanted some opinions as to what the downside would be of offering reseller packages. The packages would limit the number of domains hosted to make sure the servers don't get overloaded. The only real downside I can see is trying to enforce our policies to resold account owners in regards to spam and content.
Does anyone have any feedback or information I could use?
Thanks.

I dont think there is a downside.
Someone selling hosting for you...
Sounds good to me.
As long as you limit thier capabilities so they dont take up all BW and space and domains.. I dont see any problem.

If I read his post right, they would not be selling for you, you would sell them xGB of space and x bandwidth and X domains for X dollars and they could sell it for whatever they want. Bulk reselling is what it is called. Actually it is not reselling at all, it is subletting your serverspace. A true reseller, resells your services.
And eventually they will use up their space and bandwidth and usually about that time hosts say... Hey this person is costing me money now...
That would be the people with the Outrageous offers that you see on here. The you know what has not hit the fan yet but when it does you will hear.... My site is down and I can't find so and so. At that time they usually learn that if the offer is a bit to good to be true then it most likely is, for the long term.
I hope this helps.

One major downside, let's say you are a host who is known for great speed, and connectivity...
You start reselling, your resellers offer cheaper prices, what stops everyone from going with the resellers?
I mean, this may be a bit far fetched, as if you have this high of a reputation I think people might disregard a $1 a month to have a piece of mind, but still, it could happen :)

Nah...
We like resellers. They're fantastic customers. Mostly they don't ask the questions like how to setup email and such, and only ask when there's software config issues and the like. Once most of them get setup, then they don't have any issues.
So I see no issue with resellers. We want them to be successful and stay with us, so no big deal there. It just means more services purchased from us ;)

It's not as rough as you might imagine, enforcing your terms on the reseller's end users isn't tough as long as you allow the reseller to use your policies on their web site.
Just as David mentioned, I see no issue with resellers either.
