What *exactly* is a RAQ and why do some people dislike it while other's like it? Ok that was a dumb question.. (why do some people like pizza and some dont...hehe)..

But from my limited knowledge, a RAQ is basically really cheap hardware to run a server on??

I looked on Cobalt's (or whatever company makes em) page a while back, but it didnt have much *useful* info.

A RAQ is a web server appliance - like a toaster, except it's specifically for web hosting.

While yes, it is cheap to run a server on a RAQ, it's not marketed as a server. In other words, you should try to stick as much as you can to what's available from Cobalt for the RAQ - i.e. try not to install third party software that could possibly create problems.

My only qualm against a RAQ is that a stock-standard RAQ 4i comes with one harddisk - NO REDUNDANCY. You can get two disks and RAID them, which is a good thing, but for mission critical stuff I wouldn't bet my life on a Cobalt. Not after my filesystem corrupted and brought down the entire box - trashing all the data. :bawling:

Good luck with it all!
