I've been wondering; I've met quite a few people with all these certifications(A+, Microsoft/Macromedia Certified Professional and others)
Do they actually make that big of a difference when applying for a job? Not only in the hosting industry, but in all jobs to do with computers?

As much as I think most of them are completely worthless, it really does make a difference to many companies. Many hire completely on that basis alone and will not hire without it.

Hi ataylor :)
I think it depends on with whom the job is with, eg. a corporation or larger company would probably prefer to see degrees and qualifications... whereas I think others would prefer practical real life experience and good references.
They are just my thoughts and experiences, though :D

Any type of legitimate certification show that the applicant at least had the motivation to learn more about their chosen field. I think it makes a difference but it shouldn't be a deciding factor.
