this is sort of SCI-FI drama, could you please tell me, how YOU would react if


- you look for a good hosting company, lots cheaper than the one you are using right now,
with a great reputation
- you search for weeks and you think/you are sure you have found the right one
- you start exchanging emails with the boss and you really start to trust on the company
- the company/boss is really kind, and they do always answer to your emails within minutes
- you can also see that they have great know how, and you really feel save
- you decide, after talking for days/weeks, to move to them, coz everything is just great
if they would not be based in another continent, you'd love to have some beers with the
boss
- coz of a new server coming + your holiday, you/both decide to move the month after, and
wow, the boss also offers to make you a discount of $80, coz you will stay at the more
expensive company for another month. isn't that great?
- you go on having mail exchange with the boss and you start feeling great even before hosting
with them
- after the holiday you are already happy to start moving but the server is not ready, yet
- you rely to the company therefore you are not that worried, that's ok
- you ask again but still nothing, but you keep on feeling save, really that's ok coz you
know the boss (emails) and he is really ok and really reliable
- the company offers you to tarr all the files of your old server
- you give the login data to an employee of the company and you think WOW! THAT'S A REALLY
GREAT SERVICE, such efforts even for such small customers as you are! WOW!
- you keep on thinking about all the nameserver entries... and you know time is becoming
little
- about 3 days before the old server is going to be down, you did not get the new account
but you still feel save
- you did not even pay yet, because you think that they feel good with you, too ... wow
... you love this "partnership - familiar feeling"!
- you keep on feeling save but you start sending more than one email to the boss, to the
employee who tarred the old server
- you send a fax asking to send the login data and asking to reply to all the mails
- you send another couples of emails, you are starting to feel uncomfortable and scared
- you do not get any reply to your emails
- you ask your irl friend, who is also customer there, if he has news or if everyting is
ok with the company
- your friend tells you that everything is fine, he is exchanging emails with the boss
- you ask your friend to send an email to the company, too, telling to contact you and/or
to ask why they don't reply
- you go on sending emails, of course getting nervous (little more than 24 hours left before
the old server is down)
- you still get no reply by emails
- your friend forwards you a mail from the company!!! wow!! you are so glad now!
- you are happy! wow is everything ok? NO! the mails says to stay away from the company,
that you are a danger for their business and probably to their servers, that they have
already sent for X times emails to you with the login, how can you say that you never got
them, it's bizarre and untruthfull, but they also say that here is your account, You
disappeared and didn't answer his emails as soon as we had set up your files and then
expect that when you are ready that I just be available, and if not start spreading stupid
comments around the place.... and further the boss writes you that Your account can stay
open for now, but he wants you off their servers and gone as soon as you can. Your account
can run free of charge for two weeks, then if you are still around you can start paying
for bandwidth only if it becomes excessive (more than 400Mb per 24 day)



what would you do? would you sign up with this company? you know that the company, the boss
was really kind, and you apreciate all the efforts (hours of consulting, tarring and so on)
but would you sign up after such a heavy email? And by the way... you did really not get any
emails with the login data! you got all the emails as usual (friends/business....) but not
his ones! something did not work... the server of the boss, your server... or something in the
middle...

BTW... you have already contacted your old ISP, they are disposed to go hosting your website
as normal... therefore... you can choose!

What would you do?

P.S. do not ask me who this company is, I'm not going to tell you... coz it's SCI-FI! :-)

i would ask if I could get a pinch on the check by a pretty girl in a hot swimsuit...that I was going to spend the rest of the day with....

Oh wow.... That sounds like horrible customer service.

My situation with my DSL provider (a local Telco) was very similar... they never return an E-Mail or a phone call. - I found out the manager's home phone number, and harassed him till I got what I needed. :D

As for your situation, however, I don't think that'll be an option. If it were *ME*, I'd change the password for the existing account and continue searching - you may have discovered what their customer service is like.

hemm... please allow me... i go on thinking... I'm sure about it, that their customer service is great... but for some reasons i was not able to get their emails. the real stupid thing is that this happened exactly when it was time to get the login data. and if the boss says that he sent, I believe it.

I' more concerned about the email.... so... what would YOU do or think? am i to emotional sentimental, instead of going on thinking business? or am i really crazy coz i hoped to hear a little "sorry" by the boss coz of this email? i know, everybody has a bad day... or... was his email ok and is the boss right coz i should have paid silence or stressing less? or is the boss out there now thinking... *you* are an idiot... I'm happy if you leave!

when i decided to "sign up" with him, i did it for a few reasons, but mostly coz of the "familiar atmosphere"... he gave me the impression to be welcome and save in hosting terms...

but of course... it's all SCI-FI!

P.S. even if I'm still sure about their great customer service, i think it's normal to get sort of panic and paranoia by not knowing (even if it was sent) the login data of the account, 24 hours before the old server is going to be down

a possible reason why you thought he isn't answering your emails could be this, when the boss started setting things up for you he set up your domain in their DNS anticipating the change over, because their system now see's you as hosted there even though you are not the emails sent to you would bounce and not reach you. this scenario only works if the e-mail address your using to chat with him uses the domain name your transferring. the other part about you being a danger to them doesn't make sense unless your old host emailed them or something.
