Just saw ServerBeach is offering $99 Windows Web edition servers. This is the same price as the Linux servers. How is this possible? What is web edition? I am a linux user, but at this price Windows becomes a viable alternative. Anyone have experience with web edition? How is the stability of it?

Web edition is just a slimmed down version of 2003. Same stability, just not as many features and options. For example, you cannot run SQL on Web edition.

Just to clarify, you can't run Microsoft SQL Server on Web edition. If you wanted to run MySQL, that would work (since it's just any other program and not a Microsoft service).

Yep, only real downside that I could see is (correct me if im wrong) that it uses 1.1 framework not the 1.0 (like I have at home), so it's kinda useless for me :)

You can download the 1.1 from Winblows Upscrew / Windows Update

You should be able to install 1.0. They can run side by side.

nah, because 1.1 is crap so far, they havent even close fixed several glaring flaws with the software :) And, 1.1 is incompatible with 1.0/VS2002. This is another flaw, microshaft charges for a service pack by calling it 1.1... no thanks.

I've been waiting on rackshack to purchase a 2k3 server, but I just ordered one from serverbeach for only $99! I'll keep you guys posted, this has got to be a bad experience waiting to happen. But since they use SBC, they're only 12 hops from me so I couldn't resist.

I don't know what's up, but I haven't been able to access SB for 2 days now, via my ISP or over AOL, so I don't know what's up. My server there is up, like I can access it.. which is just weird.
