Give it to someone that needs a PC but doesn't has the money to buy one. :)

Plan A
1. install a video card with composite video out.
2. Run an Ethernet line to your family room from your intranet.
3. Run the video to an unused input on your tv/vcr/cable box.
4. Connect to weather, tvguide, or your auctions on ebay, etc.
5. Use your remote to change inputs.
6. Use a hand held mouse to update/scroll the page.

Plan B
1. Install server software.
2. Use in your intranet to develop/trial install software. Use to develop web sites.

Plan C
Set up as a browsing machine for your date when you just must check the net and don't want to be too rude. The two of you on the net at the same time in the same room and sharing net-finds is great bonding.

I wouldn't advise you try Gary's 'Plan C'...... it more than likely won't do you any good....

That machine would probably run linux nicely, therefore you could use it as a test platform for cgi and junk like that....

Required:

- Sledgehammer or axe recommended, baseball bat works as well.
- Safety glasses of course.
- Private area outside where neighbors won't call the local asylum.
- Lock kids indoors if applicable.
- Raise tool over head and swing down onto proposed box.
- Venting is good. :D

You should give it away (to me) or sell it. It would make a nice addition to my home network, and it would run most any OS just fine, especially a Unix variant. Find a use for it by installing a new OS to use, learn or experiement with.

Totally agreed. The machine will 'fly' if you run something like Debian, Slackware or Mandrake on it.... (I use Debian on a 266 @ work and it's very smooth)

This is kinda off topic... but does anybody know a good place to find old(er) computers to buy? I am looking for a laptop with maybe 233-400mh and maybe 2-5 gigs of space to use to write and maybe work on a few webpages of mine on.

Anybody know of a place that specializes/offers this kind of thing?

Slap linux on it and run Dnet for this team http://stats.distributed.net/rc5-64/tmsummary.php3?team=865184354
And then use it for some of the things mentioned above;)))

Well there's this guy Chris who apparently has a Pentium 233 64MB that he doesn't know what to do with. :D

But seriously, do you have any ex-government places nearby? They often sell older computers - although probably older than what you're after. Perhaps ex-office and ex-rent places or something like that? I don't know of any online stores, but I'm sure there are some. You could even advertise that you wanted one in a local newspaper... I bet you'd get a flood of offers. I'd be thinking there's a lot of people with such computers that don't sell them simply because they don't think they'll get anything for them.

Hey bigperm! :D

I know a local place (2 minutes down the road from me that is, heh) had a couple laptops like this (give a call) http://www.pcliquidator.com/index.htm

Also, obviously ebay and that sort of thing.

Also you could check http://www.computersurplusoutlet.com (they have one $79 notebook, but the next cheapest is $600)

Giving away a computer is a nice thing to do, but if it were only that simple! I've given a few away, but the good folks were are always trying to track me down for help with one thing or another... Next time I want to generous, i'll leave it at a school bus stop. :D

Donate it to a local school (make sure they have a tech guy/girl). My classroom *still* doesn't have a single computer (meanwhile teachers are complaining that they only have *two* or that they have two but no printer).
