Notice they changed their site from that ugly setup it had before? Much better althought the colors don't promote business. oh well.
chaos 07-30-2001, 11:04 AM Wow, a huge improvement.
Abu Mami 07-30-2001, 11:34 AM Looks nice, but... Are they running on a 2400 baud modem?
klisis 07-30-2001, 12:01 PM Hmm, it's really cute & nice website. It's... a bit graphic intensive though.
Well, they changed their outfit but I believe they didn't change their inside.
kunal 07-30-2001, 12:03 PM it looks good.. i havent seen a site like this in years..i really like it :)
jiminsd 07-30-2001, 12:28 PM As the old saying goes:
"You can dress them up but..."
alpha 07-30-2001, 12:34 PM
shocking!
well, then again... *****'s design is pretty nice too :)
brav0 07-30-2001, 01:31 PM From netmechanic (http://www.netmechanic.com) :
Total Page Size: 166430 bytes
Total Graphics: 151901 bytes - 61 images
Modem Speed Download Time
14.4k - 94.46 seconds
28.8k - 48.23 seconds
56k - 25.52 seconds
ISDN (128k) - 12.40 seconds
T1 (1.44 MB) - 2.92 seconds
I believe the above does not include the rollover images, so it's probably around 185k - 190K.
Very nice design, really stands out, but with a price in download time.

LOL! :D
...you see lots of http://burlee.com/ style designs around lately.
Well, it's very nice but i'll definately second or third the notion of sloooowness. :D
CWIhosting 07-30-2001, 02:35 PM It does in fact look much better then the orginal.
yeswebmaster 07-30-2001, 02:47 PM I agree nice, and yes it is very slow loading. Probably too many images, you don't need all those images on the left.
Eagle 07-30-2001, 03:58 PM Yeah,
the new design IS a lot better...
but it IS kinda heavy... :(
creid 07-30-2001, 05:19 PM I like it!
Lot better then there last!
SI-Chris 07-30-2001, 05:24 PM The new design looks spiffy with the cute animated icons and all, but I question how *effective* it is compared to the old design, which loaded much faster and required less "hunting" to find the info you wanted.
Those bars that you have to mouseover to get the explanitory text (like the "Excellent 24/7 Customer Care" on the home page) are a big usability blunder. You have to move your mouse over them to see the text, but then your mouse pointer is blocking the text. Not to mention the fact that search engines won't index the text because it's a graphic.
The menu system is poorly designed. Why do you need a menu at the top (eating up vertical screen real estate) that duplicates the menu on the side? The Control Panel Login is eating up a big chunk of vertical menu space, and it shouldn't even be there in the first place (do you really need a control panel login form on every page of your sales-pitch site?). Also, that Additional Site Navigation panel at the bottom of the page is an idea that's too slick for its own good. The compass rose is using up a lot of space, and you don't know what those associated icons do until you mouse over them. "Bookmark this site" belongs at the top of the page, not hidden at the very bottom as a description-less icon.
It looks like whoever designed their site knows a lot about Photoshop but little about user interface design.
creepcolony 07-30-2001, 05:35 PM i think they are on T3
CWIhosting 07-30-2001, 06:39 PM Great Points Chris. Its still worlds better then the original, but useability could have been improved. Getting right to the information is what users want in this industry, with so many other companies to compare, they do not want to waste time "hunting" around a site.
determinist 07-31-2001, 12:14 AM Very well done.
But this like of loading is never be for my business website.
They should have tell their deisgner to do something.
