Dialtone's NOC center is supposed to be pretty good, however several of my friends with dedicated servers have serious problems with dialtone's technical support. So if you need quality technical support you might want to think about that.

Id say their support is great. I have yet to see a ticket go past 15 min. before its answered no matter what day or time its submitted. Thanks DI

well TECHNICALLY, I was with a company who used DI's noc, but i was using DI's support (that's who i would contact) for help

the provider went broke, and i lost my server (I didn't do anything wrong, the company just shut down our servers and DI wouldnt turn them back on cus they werent allowed to), there was a huge thread about it...

We had a server at DI, all we can say is they have a very competitive marketing dept, very very good tech support and good bandwith. We have just been disappointed by their servers, they were supposed to be upgraded, instead we've find OS labeled 1999, php3 and it has been very hard to get IPs-
I suppose that's just one on thousands .. but it was OUR server

Avoid DI. The only thing that works there is the billing department.
They had good hardware, good connections and... nothing else. The technical support isn't bad... simply non-existent.
I had a dedicated server there and never (and when I say never is never) replied my inquiries. They serve IP in blocks of 5 and each time I was about to use them they were used by another client of DI.
If you need technical support go somewhere else but not to DI.
Once you contract a server it will never be upgraded resulting in a overpriced old box in just a few months.

sensei,
Sounds like you had a bad experience but I guarantee thier suport is top notch...at least fot us. We have been with them for years and they always answer tickets within minutes. Of course we are no dedicated clients but colo and so our tickets are not the typicall "fix my server" or "upgrade my server" tickets . As for IP's it is possible to get more at one time. You can speak with your sales manager to help you get a full days IP's allocated at once instead of 5 every two hours you can get them all at once . So blocks of 60 are possible and you can always buy full class c's just like any other provider.

Just reaffirming the kudos to DI. As Jag said. However, I'd like to also add, that I had DI do one of the most complex tasks any NOC/datacenter would have dealing with a system. I did provide exact step by step instructions for one of the support people (about 5 pages actually -- which was needed), and it still could have gone wrong, been misunderstood or easily gone awry. I was completely nervous about having anyone do this other than me personally, but this guy pulled it off, said the instructions were perfect and everything was done quickly and without one problem. I was very impressed, and I'd have them do this again if needed -- although that will never have to happen. Of course, not every tech is the same, but in general, it's been good and we've been satisfied.

when going through past reviews i learned dialtone support staff formated hard drive of one of there client by mistake. I don't know weather that is true or not but this thread was very hot before some days and mods have to lock them up.

Good point, but we never had confirmation that this was true. It looks true, but we don't know. Still, something to consider though.

that is exactly what i said. but i know one thing when people make such claims in open forms there is some percentage turth in that which dialtone don't like and that is why they tried to closed that thread and they succeed. :o

As far as we could find out it did happen, although I believe it was not something that happens all the time there.

My friend at dialtone, started having problems with ips suddenly being unbound from his machine. The problem was dialtone was giving out his IPs to other servers! They didn't get it fixed for two days! They also charged him $75 for their mistake. Dialtone support is normally decent I've heard, but they often charge you for every little thing...

i got a dedicated server from DI just over two weeks ago, and it's been a great experience.

Pros:

1) Great bandwidth speed and connections
2) Quick response from tech support (esp. William, the Sys. Admin)
3) Sales Dept. always ready to sell

Cons:

1) Charges you if you mess with the server control panel or anything else
2) Might install PHP3 or an old Apache (Apache 1.3.9, which is ANCIENT) but if you tell them before ordering to install a specific version of Apache, Perl and PHP, they will follow instructions <i didn't know this> :bawling:

I'd say go for DI! You can ping my website at findmidis.com <hope this isn't against forum rules!> or any other (like jaguarpc.com). Good luck in your search for a good host!
