Hi there
Just wondering if anyone can tell me, in good detail, the differences between windows and linux hosting, and if php/mysql works on windows.

i ask this because I have the chance to upgrade my linux account to a bigger windows account.

thanks for your time
Liam

Why it is allegedly better?

I believe it has to do with how much space is available on your hard drive for a linux web host. Linux takes up less install space then Windows. I am using Mandrake 9.1 and it requires only 3 GB to setup... I hope this helps. Thanks!

Take care,
Smiley :D

first of all, linux doesn't have reboot as much as window has, second linux more stable then window with hosting software or scripts

PHP and MySQL on windows has some issues compared to PHP and MySQL on a 'nix box. It's basically a trade-off. Compatibility of ASP on linux isn't as good as on Windows and PHP/MySQL isn't quite the same as on Linux.

The server that is right for you is based on the types of applications you run. Linux is more secure and stable than Windows, but that doesn't mean a whole lot if you need to run the .NET framework.

In your case, you're wanting PHP and MySQL, so I would recommend sticking with 'nix.
